Now I am not usually one for writing negative reviews because I don’t necessarily think that the opinion of one person should outweigh others or should be put against an independent business. However, in this case, I must make an exception.
We have spend the best part of two years walking past the restaurant after visiting Savoy to head to a chain restaurant. During lockdown we decided to give TJ a chance and see if a new favourite would be found.
Reader, it wasn’t.
To begin with, I hope you like BBQ sauce because it’s literally on everything. It NEEDS to be noted that the crepes and waffles you see on the dessert menu feature throughout the main menu.
I ordered a quesadilla and let me tell you, I was horrified when I opened the box to discover that it had been bastardised and the tortillas had been replaced by pancakes. HORRIFIC. This made the quesadillas very soggy and they were just dreadful. We had also ordered a burrito where once again, the perfect tortilla, an exceptional vessel for Mexican food, had been replaced by a flaccid pancake. What on God’s green earth was going on here. Reader, I have never been so disappointed by Mexican food IN MY LIFE. The eater of the burrito also suffered the midnight nightmare which could only be referred to as episode three: Revenge of the Rectum or episode five: The Burrito Strikes Back.
During these times of pandemic induced toilet paper shortages, there is no fibre of my being which would recommend replacing tortillas with crêpes.
The other two dishes we ordered were the bacon burger (including bbq sauce) and the corn dogs.
The burger was extremely disappointing. The bacon, undercooked and in no way crispy which was promised in the menu description. The bread - soggy, although we live a mere 10 minutes maximum from restaurant location. The chips - average. Absolutely bought in bulk from Costco or the Company Shop. Overall the burger was not consumed.
Remember I mentioned the waffles from the dessert menu? Well guess what the corn dogs were made of? PANCAKES! Just kidding, it was the damn waffles. I don’t know if you’ve heard of the delights of chicken and waffle but cocktail sausage and waffle on a stick is incomparable and incompatible. It was awful.
To top off this dire meal, the price we paid was extortionate for the quality of the products we received. We paid around £40 to only manage to force down a third of the food purchased, the majority of which was the diarrhoea burrito.
If you enjoy TJ’s, then good for you. You clearly have a good menu choice that works for you and stomach made of iron. However, we shall be continuing to walk past the ever empty restaurant and head to the chain across the street which sells easily comparable food at a higher quality and better price with no...
Read moreI’m not normally one to complain but the service and food combined were so bad it’s difficult not to say anything. This was our first visit to TJ’s bar and grill and we were excited to try a new restaurant. Apon arrival, we noticed that the floors were sticky and i genuinely had to peel my shoes off at one point, the staff were quiet and quite dismissive instantly and the place was completely empty which should’ve been the first clues. We ordered two canned drinks, both were completely flat and were placed inside the glass touching the ice which we thought was quite unhygienic. We ordered a caesar salad, spicy cajun chicken pasta, chicken gyozas and skin on fries totalling roughly £45 including the drinks. As soon as the food arrived to the table we commented on the bad presentation as it was sloppy and quite frankly not appealing at all. Both mains were soggy, bland and just all round disgusting. I struggled to eat two bites before feeling ill. The sides were okay and we were happy to pay for them. We each managed to eat a couple bites before “complaining”, as i said i’m not one to write a bad review as i’ve worked in hospitality before and some things are just out of your hands but we just weren’t happy paying for this at all. I let one of the staff members know and asked nicely if we could pay for the drinks and sides and remove the mains from the bill. The staff were just unnecessarily rude as we approached the situation calmly and politely. We were told “we’d already ordered and ate some of the food” and weren’t apologised to or offered another solution at all - they made it seem that it was our problem. After some back and forth we were able to pay for just the sides and the drinks - even that I wasn’t particularly happy with after their response and the whole experience. We were told “it would only happen this once” I can assure you it won’t happen again - you couldn’t pay me to return and spend any more of my money there. If I could put zero stars I would. I’ve seen the restaurants responses on here so I am already expecting a rude and defensive response. If the situation was dealt with kindly I would not feel the need to write this. Don’t waste your time or money...
Read moreWe have visited the Bar & Grill a few times over the years, and I think a restaurant is a place with very high-quality ingredients. They work hard to ensure that service is given to each customer.
We came here yesterday after working out at the nearby gym and were greeted by a lovely waitress who took us to our seats. We were given menus and ordered some coca cola.
Looking through the menu, I couldn't help but feel slightly confused about how the burgers were cheaper than a burrito bowl. Many of the menu prices were questionable, but I decided on having the burrito bowl with pulled pork, and my partner ordered the "Dirty" burger.
The food does take time to cook since it's all made fresh, which I understand and respect, and I know from previous experience the burgers here are stellar. I was looking forward to my burrito bowl, and when it came, it was presented in a bowl, and it was a third rice and a third meat, and a third cheese with skin on chips to the side with soured cream and guacamole.
This was a perfect meal for me to have after the gym, but I do need to comment that the rice was very overcooked, and it just didn't do the meal justice. I didn't say anything to the waitress because, frankly, I was hungry, but the meat and the cheese were delicious, and after mixing everything, it was an excellent meal. I just wished the rice was cooked properly. (1:2 ratio with rice and water in a pan lid shut until boiling, then heat at its lowest for ten minutes without stirring) makes all the difference, and it would enhance the meal.
We had plenty of seats to choose from and enjoyed our visit here. It's a good restaurant in Corby but do go for their burgers if you want your taste buds tingling. I recommend the Hawaiian burger, which is...
