Excellent First Visit to LA MENSA, Italian restaurant in Rothbury.
This was our first visit to La Mensa, despite living not very far away, and now we are kicking ourselves for not going sooner…great greeting from Danni the owner (with husband Gavin), shown to a really nice window table and given the lunch menu. It would appear that the lunchtime menu shows all the same items as the evening one, but at a reduced price. Decisions made..Caneloni for me, and Bologna for my husband..nice relaxed atmosphere..waited a reasonable time and when the food came it was delicious…I should have taken a picture to start with, but the cleared plates demonstrate how much we enjoyed them. Followed by chocolate fudge cake, warmed up, with ice cream accompaniment….ooh….that was special. What we really liked as well was the Peroni Libra (alcohol free beer) for my husband who was driving, and a glass of nice, soft red wine for me, which accompanied our meal, together with the unusual decor and gentle music. We will definitely...
Read moreFantastic food and brilliant service. We found this gem of a restaurant after failing to find decent food in the Turks, Newcastle and Queens public houses. We attended with two dogs and were immediately accommodated in the rear garden which was perfect for us. The staff then produced a bowl of cold water for the dogs as they took out drinks order. The drinks arrived promptly and were very welcome on such a hot day and the food order followed. I asked for additional king prawns to be added to my chicken pizza and the chef could not have been more amenable. Not only did he add the prawns but he also removed the shells. The stuffed mushrooms were a taste sensation and the whole dinning experience could not have been better. The bill was very reasonable for the high standard of food and we wish we lived closer as it would definately be a regular favourite. Please do not lose your friendly approach and your quality food as we...
Read moreVisited this place for a meet up with friends. The process of calling and booking a table was very easy. Staff were friendly and a welcoming atmosphere. I really liked the decor with the old signs and other items related to Italy and its food, very cool and quirky. Service was really good. Didn't have to wait long for our main food and every one of us enjoyed what we ate, I had the meatfeast pizza which was one of the best I had tasted. The pizza came out at a nice warm temperature too. Had to wait longer for the dessert (no bother as we were enjoying ourselves); but it was well worth the wait and would recommend the chocolate fudge cake and ice cream, especially when the fudge cake is warmed up. Would definitely return when next visiting...
