A wonderful welcome to the town! We arrived for the first day of a short break just in dinner time and looking back I am glad we found The Queens Head. Sanitisers were available by the door and customers were encouraged to clean hands before walking in the restaurant. We have guided a table for 4 and tables had dividers strategically place to maintain social distancing. A wide selection of traditional British dishes was available on the menu. There was also a specials menu which the staff could have made us aware of but we weren’t disappointed by the food we ordered. We decided to take for all of our food to come together and ordered creamy mushrooms, portion chips, chicken strips which with a portion of chips with its self and chicken with haggis cooked in peppercorn sauce, and all of the food was just delicious. The creamy sauce with mushroom was memorable, chicken strips were freshly cooked and well battered. It was the first time my daughter was having haggis, and she absolutely loved it. Along with all the great food, the chips felt ordinary. The dessert is what made me give 5-star for my rating. I have yet to a rocky road which melts in the mouth, disappointed I didn’t order that for myself and had to rely on my daughters will to share her delicious dessert. I ordered Biscoff Cheesecake, which was one of a kind too and comes highly recommended. If you are in town, don’t leave without...
Read moreWe're staying in Rothbury for a week and fancied eating dinner out, so we chose The Queens Head as it's only just up the road.
We'd found out earlier that evening food started being served at 6.30pm, so we rocked up about 7.30pm and headed into the bar area. The Barmaid gave us a cheery welcome and upon us enquiring about food, she asked if we wanted to eat in the restaurant or the bar area. We chose the bar area as it was really warm, toasty and cosy and we settled down in the seats by the fire.
The Menus we were given had some lovely food noted on them, so we each chose a Starter and a Main Course. I chose the Pork and Apple Stack and the Chicken and Haggis and the OH had the Black Pudding and Poached Egg and also the Chicken and Haggis.
The Starters arrived shortly after ordering and they were delicious. I hoovered mine up in record time as it tasted so nice. The OH took longer (he chews and savours his food) and gave me some, that too was lovely.
Our Main Courses too were delicious. The Chicken was beautifully cooked and the Haggis was really tasty, the vegetables accompanying the mains were cooked to perfection.
All in all, we felt that for the price (two starters, two mains and two alcoholic drinks each) it was great value for money.
I can thoroughly recommend The Queens Head, the staff are lovely, the atmosphere is cosy and the food...
Read moreAfter a fantastic visit to Cragside, a friend and I stopped in Rothbury for a coffee and snack yesterday afternoon, Sunday 17th October. We entered the Queens Head, despite not having a reservation and asked if we might have a hot drink and a snack (tea / coffee and cake). Apparently being a Sunday, they only did Sunday lunch, having explained we really only wanted a slight snack and drink, it was agreed that we might have those, but as we were not ordering lunch, we could sit in the corner! I did joke to my friend that we were definitely the 'townies' as the staff seemed to know everyone else in the room. Taking our order, we did order a tea, coffee and two pieces of cake and two glasses of water. Not the greatest service in the world and despite trying to catch the eye of the waiting staff, we were out of luck, the glasses of water never did appear. Whilst I appreciate that we were not locals, however if you advertise outside your establishment that you provide food and drink, it is probably not too much to expect to receive those things. Finally to the young long haired, blond waitress, either tie your hair back or do not keep running your fingers through your hair when you are...
