Macchiatos Coffee & Bagels Shop — Restaurant in England

Have been here a few times, nice little place but let down sometimes by the staff.

Got there this morning at 9. Lady opened up at a couple of minutes past and told me the coffee machine needs to warm up and will be ready in ten minutes. Not a problem at all I'm patient and understanding.

Two flat whites arrive and walk out. Literally couldn't taste any coffee and for the first time in my life I thought no I'm going to say something that's not right.

When I told the lady my flat white tasted like hot milk she rolled her eyes and said " there's two shots " I said well it needs more because all I can taste is milk.

She looked at me like I'd just run over her cat.

2 mins later 2 new coffees, tasted it, exactly the same. £6 for two hot milks and an attitude.

People always say support your local independent coffee shops and I always have but when you can get better from a petrol station I won't be supporting this business any more.

The coffee shop is highly modernised and looks warm and welcoming.

The staff are friendly and the food came out in a timely manor.

Most importantly, the food came out exactly as I would have expected it to and was flavourful.

Both me and my wife had the Salt Beef Bagel and the Schnitzel Bagel. The only negative I would have, if any, is that there are no pictures of the food so you aren't entirely sure of how exactly the food will look. HOWEVER, having photos of the food around the coffee shop may contrast with the aesthetics. So the negative does rather contradict itself. To solve this, I actually would recommend a hack I have and thats to look at Uber Eats or Deliveroo as they have pictures of all the food on their app.

Staff were very friendly and the atmosphere was very pleasant. Excited to see an independent coffee shop in Grays.

However they were missing key ingredients from some of the bagels in the menu so had to change our order several times. This is not so much of a problem it was the lack of team coordination which left us waiting almost half an hour for our takeaway bagels. Our flat white wasn't great and was very bitter and the oat milk wasn't steamed properly. The staff just seemed more concerned about stock delivery than their waiting customers. Maybe it was just a bad time (midday) to order but with three staff I feel it could of been managed better. We will give it another chance and keep our fingers crossed.
