Nelson Arms — Restaurant in England

Haven't been back here for about 8 years, mostly due to having young children and the hassle to take them places - lol. Anyway, just been back tonight and we were not disappointed. Sadly, the lovely original owners have passed away, but on the plus side the Son, Wife and Sister have taken it over and with great results!

The Son was as lovely and friendly as I remembered, the Carvery dinner was just delicious, really great home cooking, hot and plentiful and all plates were virtually licked clean.

We have decided to start making this trip at least a couple of times a month again, just like we used to. It is a bit of a trek from Portishead, but worth every mile!

I would like to see the interior decor modernised to bring it up-to-date, but to be honest, it doesn't bother me enough to stop me coming back. The place was really busy, which in these austere times and on a Sunday night, is surely a great recommendation!

I am not normally a pub going type mainly due to them being clicky, with overpriced food and no quality or care.

I have been coming to nelson arms, weekly for several months now. I can say it is the best pub I've ever been to!

The atmosphere is so relaxing, and people don't stare when you walk in. I have never felt so welcome by staff, but here you are guaranteed a smile and a friendly attitude.

You can tell this is a family run pub and it's 100% a little piece of the past that warms you up.

The roast dinners are the best I have ever had when eating out. Reminds me of nans roast dinners! Portions are as large or small as you like with plenty of choices. It can get very busy on weekends but you will see why if you visit.

This was my second time at this pub for Sunday lunch, having stayed at Cheddar Lodges with friends,. A wonderful experience, the Sunday Roast was truly amazing, just like home cooked, plenty of choice of meats and lots of home cooked tasty veg, with wonderful Gravy. Everyone (5) of us thoroughly enjoyed every mouthful and did not want to come to the end, so much food on the plate and having a good appetite myself, I left full and very happy, Some of my friends left meat (full up) so I brought it home for my dog. The Staff are extremely friendly and professional, all very happy and obliging considering how busy it was, I WOULD HIGHTLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE and definitely will be going back, Huge Thanks guys for a lovely meal
