I personally think that the food is just ok, but the portions are small and frankly overpriced, the waitress found it hard to make eye contact with others, not really a people person in my opinion unless we were giving off to much lower class vibe, but rather that be condescending and providing very little information about the menu that was decidedly average at best, maybe the experience might have felt a little different. But unfortunately the food would remain the same, and so would the price, I’ve had starters more substantial. And cost less at much better restaurants. I think that this establishments main victims are holiday makers that are passing through, personally I think not aiming for repeat customers is a mistake, because I live 20 minutes away and personally I’d go somewhere else, where? why not go to Sam’s down the road be treated with respect and eat well. And feel much happier. When looking at their menu just think tapas, because that’s being generous on the size. Just the fish and a side that’s not clearly displayed is a very small lunch for light eaters.
Added after reading other reviews, Personally I think you don’t value the people you’re providing a service to, if your food was amazing I could probably forgive some of that attitude, but really...
Read moreSomewhere new, let's give it a try, we thought. Error. Don't bother. Really don't bother. We don't mind queuing, even if the estimated 30-40 minutes turns into an hour. But a do object when a space comes free and the front-of-house girl gives it to what were obviously friends who'd only just arrived in the queue when we'd already been there 40 minutes. Grr. We finally got given a table before the trio in front of us in the queue, even tho there was space for them where we were put. Why? But we then sat, being studiously ignored by the waitress, who was desperately avoiding eye contact with us, for another 15 minutes. not even an "I'll be with you shortly". With hindsight, alI this this was a bonus - it gave us more time to look at the menu, look around at the food and decide it all looked uninspring at best. The family next to us were more prodding than relishing their meal. Eventually, I snapped and we left, never having been given the change to order something. Instead, we bought some fantastic bread in the Quay Bakery, some excellent crab from Mr Kittow and had a lovely lunch. We'll stick to our favourite Sams in future, which sits at the desirable end of the how-to/how-not-to spectrum, with this lot right at the...
Read moreEaten at loads of nice restaurants in London and trips around the UK but this was the best this year!
We had dinner at North Street kitchen on a summer evening and were wowed by everything from the atmosphere, service and standard of food!
The restaurant is situated in industrial setting alongside the river with views out and the kitchen is open and you can see the chiefs at work which adds to the whole relaxed atmosphere. All the staff were lovely and hospitable and made us feel so welcome and really added to the whole evening!
The food was knockout! Having seen lots of good reviews we were excited and expecting it to be good, but we were blown away by the quality!
To start we had the foccacia (best I've ever had!), cornish feta and salt cod fritters. Followed by john dory, potatoes and green salad (even this was super fresh and with a lovely dressing). Each dish was carefully prepared with a lovely sauce and seasoning, showing the chefs ability to celebrate high quality ingredients in a super tasty but un flashy way.
If you are in Fowey or nearby in Cornwall this place is a must for foodies or anyone who wants to eat amazingly fresh ingredients cooked to perfection in a...
