I have two problems with this cafe, first is the access. Its really difficult to visit here if you have a wheelchair or a pram. There is no ramp, the door is narrow and space inside is really limited. This wouldn't be a problem if they took your order from the outside seating area (like they used to before it was taken over). But they make you go in to order which is such hard work with the access issues, and you can't guarantee your table will still be there when you get back.
Secondly I don't find the staff helpful or friendly at all, Im actually made to feel like more of a nuisance going in there than a valued customer. The previous staff before the new management were AMAZING, they used to remember you, gave me free cookies on my sons birthday breakfast, they were friendly and I couldn't tip them enough. The current staff just don't make you feel welcome at all. My last visit at the weekend has just made me say I won't be visiting again as the lady on the til was just so unpleasant. Which is a shame as I love love to support local businesses. But on this occasion I'd rather drive to Starbucks.
2 stars because the previous staff were amazing and the...

Great for a coffee and watching the world go by from the bright modern interior or from the outside seating (it's on a busy 'ish' street, although not the main through-route, so not really objectionably noisy).
Only 'luke warm' comment is that, like many coffee shops / cafés these days who rightly try hard to keep abreast of what is trendy, they claim to be able to serve a proper Flat White. Sorry, not really in this case. Too thin and milky. The milk wasn't 'textured' (frothed) sufficiently. A Flat white should be a textured drink, the lightly frothed milk mingling with the coffee to give a velvety drink right from the top to the bottom of the cup. And I didn't ask if they'd used a double shot (at least a double is essential) or a single.
The owner and staff should visit Durham and particularly the Flat White Cafe, or even Costa, to see how to make a proper Flat White.
All in all though, complete pedants about Flat Whites aside, a little gem in a pleasant...
Read moreWhere's the lovely inviting staff gone!? Walked in no one smiled just looked at me like 'why are you here'! Dark dingy decor and dark dingy staff. Got a bowl of chunky chips and a cranberry juice for just over ÂŁ6. In another review it says they don't do gluten free food because of the health risk but they do dairy free food đ€š makes me worry how dairy free it is if they can't do gluten free! Tables are too close together have to squidge round one another! There was only 3 tables being used and not many reserved but they sat us all down in a line so definitely squished! Overall I wouldn't recommend unfortunately. Would love to be able to recommend to bring people to the area but not this cafe. Would be greatly improved by some light coloured decoration and some atleast smiling not arms crossed...
