This is a gem of a bakery in Wolsingham. It looks high class on the outside and on the inside and the baked goods looked and tasted great! They currently have a limited menu but the home made mince pie and mushy peas were really good. The individual lemon meringue pie I had for afters was delicious, as was the custard slice my uncle had! Two mugs of tea completed our lunch for around £20 but then I spent over £30 on Neukey Broon and apple chutney, Neukey Broon fudge, coal from Newcastle ( cinder toffee coloured black) and a pack of Northumberland biscuits. A few Xmas presents sorted there! The toilet is worth a mention too, lovely and clean decor inside with walls papered with the pages of a Charles Dickens book coated in varnish! Then comes the part where you feel that a coffee and maybe a slice of cake will be enough and in you go, whereupon restraint goes out the window and as well as enjoying your coffee and cake you buy things for home, for later of course, but later is sooner, oh well.
But why not, with coffee and baked goods as delicious as this (sweet and savory), and the welcome as warm, why wouldn’t you insist that restraint take a break.
