Went for lunch with some friends last Thursday. Thought I would try something different from my usual choice, and decided to have jacket potato with Mushrooms and blue cheese. When served it didn't look good. Very small potatoes a few tined Mushrooms and the Blue cheese turned out to be a very small amount of sauce. Thought I'd give it a go after asking for more sauce. The potato was quite brown inside, but still Thought I'd not say anything. After a few mouthfuls the rest of the potato was rock hard no way could I get a knife through it. My guess is it had been through the microwave several times and was dried out. When I pointed this out to the lady who served us, it was me who said sorry I was not able to eat it, but got no apology from her as she just took the plate away and said no need to pay for it, and said she would let the chef know. ( How can a chef not know how to cook a jacket potato) She didn't even ask if I'd liked to order anything else. I have never been anywhere and not paid for a meal. I was the only one in my group who ordered this and there meals were ok. I was also made to feel by that waiter it was my fault the potato in my meal was inedible. I made a great effort going out as I'd broken 2 bones in my foot, the week before, and was in pain while sitting there. My friends were about to order dessert, and I had no other option but leave them there, go home and...
Read moreBrother in law booked a table for us for a cream tea for about 12 of us. Was somewhere to eat and drink after we laid the ashes of his wife, my sister in law. So personally was hoping for something better. As you walk in the place feels cold and damp and smells like an old pub. Which of course it is. A new carpet or the carpet being cleaned now and again would help. We were lead to our reserved table with plenty of room, and in face I've been to a party here before and that was great. But the lunchtime cream tea was a let down. The lady apologised for no stands for the sandwiches, which tbh you could buy off amazon for a few pounds! So we were presented with a couple of sandwiches each, on a plate each, which were made up of precisely 2 slices of bread with crusts cut off. They were followed with a couple of cakes, scones and cream. A few of us mentioned that the food and cakes never matched the menu. And to call it a cream tea quite frankly was a joke. My sister in law loved a cream tea but would not, like us, of been impressed. The included coffee and tea was plentiful though. The beer selection is very good and well priced if your there for that. And the larger room is ideal for private functions. Unfortunately on this occasion Oakwwod fell short. Cmon Oakwood, get your act together! A cream tea is not just a cake and sandwiches, it's about...
Read moreMy new regular eat in get away! Me and my daughter fancied a change so we came here last Friday to eat and I got to say, It was one of the best pubs I have been in to eat, the staff were so welcoming and friendly and and food was so fresh. The best part for me is that it was so spacious in there and it wasn't rammed like other pubs so it was so enjoyable we didn't want to leave. The ONLY slight down fall was that there was only ice cream and jelly on kids dessert menu and my child is fussy so she would have preferred a cake like the ones on main menu but it wasn't an issue as the lovely lady offered a nice ice cream with sweets that she could decorate herself. Cant wait to come back, I think it will be an every Friday treat for me and my daughter and my family are looking forward to attending. Thank you for your warm welcome and reasonable...
