NUGS Leigh-on-Sea — Restaurant in Great Britain

In short - I am willing to try this location again hopefully my food will be better next time. There was definitely something there but I think due to the skimping on sauce the flavour wasn't strong enough. There also needs to be more consistency in the size of the nuggets because at least 1/5 nuggets were around the size of a £1 coin. The rest of the pieces were the size of a golf ball which were very generous. I get this is because they are hand made but at the prices you cannot be losing 20% of your meal to a small piece. The service was excellent and so were the tater tots.

Overall an okay experience, I have heard many good things about this restaurant from all over the internet. As such I was expecting very good things and being a lover of chicken wings I was very excited by the menu.

The ordering process was simple and easy to do online and even better first time orders get an extra 10% off. I ordered collection for 6.45pm and arrived just before this where I checked in with the server. I was informed that there was a small delay of around 10 minutes. No problem as I could see there was multiple orders and deliveries waiting. The food was ready at 6.56pm so on time with the estimate. The food was well packaged and the server asked if I needed cutlery and napkins which was appreciated. Very impressed with the service.

The food however was a bit disappointing considering the awards and reviews this place gets for me. It seems I may have just caught them at a busy time but this is no excuse for letting consistency and standards slip at a place this is not the cheapest for chicken nuggets.

The nuggets themselves were nice well cooked and not dry. The breading was simple but had a decent flavour. The chicken nuggets were very inconsistent in size with some being very good nuggets the size of a golf ball and others about 1/4 of this. I get they are hand made from breast pieces but again needs to be consistent as you could order 5 pieces and only really get 4 because of this.

The buffalo wings were the highlight of the meal lots of sauce and a good flavour to the sauce. It paired really well with the blue cheese which was very good aswell. The ranch not so much I found this lacking in flavour and just tasted of yogurt or sour cream or whatever the base was.

The rest of the wings were ok but there was barely any sauce and looking at other photos in the reviews sections I think I was done here. I tried the hot honey siracha, Korean heat and garlic parm as I wanted to get a taste of most of the menu. The lack of sauce really ruined it as there was barely enough to cover the nugget and nothing to scoop up in the container. This left the wings basically being bare where there was only a small amount of flavour which was overpowered by the breading on the nugget.

The hot loaded tots were excellent though and had a thorough topping of cheese, chilli and sauce.

So overall I think I will give this restaurant another go as there was something there but they missed the mark this time due to the skimping on the sauce. Stopped off over the weekend to give this place a go and I was a little disappointed to hear no wraps or burgers at the minute so I went for the combo of the BBQ nuggs, loaded tots and 1 dip. Worked out about £17! Little expensive for my liking considering KFC is at the top of the road and I could get more for my money but wanted to give this place ago. Now that I have tried it I don't think il rush back any time soon. My Nuggs was cold to be fair, I would prefer more sauce on the nugs to get the actually taste of the flavour also.

Loaded tots was good. Not to sure if they tried to melt the cheese or keep the food warm but the corner of the food box got burnt and when i opened to eat the ash from the box fell onto the tots and it was a pain to get it off nearly has to throw a bit away.

Also member of staff using his hands to sprinkle cheese over the tots. please use serving spoon just looks...

Ordered several times now, both for collection and delivery.

Always great quality nugs and I look forward to the menu expansion - looking at the Romford menu, there's a fillet burger with my name on it! 🤤

For balance, some constructive criticism - I've noticed the amount of sauce on a portion of nugs can be inconsistent - our first order was drowning in sauce (probably too much) but subsequent ones are sometimes a little lacking. Given the various choices with sauce are priced notably higher over the O.G. Nugs, perhaps that's something you can take on board?

I'd also consider some of the 'platter' deals good value on a larger order, but ideally I'd like to see them come with more than 1 or 2 portions of fries (unless those are larger portions), the ratio of nugs to fries on those (albeit with other sides) seems a little off.
