The Old Ham Tree||||Parked up in the parking area at the rear of The Old Ham Tree and after gathering my bags, made my way in to the building via the beer garden.||On walking up to the rear of the bar by the back door and at the base of a narrow set of stairs, I advised the young lady who was serving that I wished to check in; she shrugged and called up the narrow stairs. An older woman eventually came to the top of the stairs and said she would be down in a minute. Several minutes passed and she did not appear again so I again approached the young woman and explained that I was pretty tired (read exhausted) and just wanted to check in to which she replied there was nothing she could do.||Some minutes later she called up the stairs to the older woman who this time made her way downstairs all the while grumbling that she said she would be there in a minute.||She asked me what I wanted and indicating my bags I told her I wanted to check in. Huffing and sighing she went of to get the keys and on reappearing, told me to follow her. We went back outside and through the beer garden to a set of stone steps running up the outside of the rear of the building.||Having duly climbed these I was then warned to watch the paint pots which obstructed half of the width of the corridor or more. The woman apologised for the mess and said they were having some decorating done. The rooms are clean but sparten and what view they offer is currently obscured by scaffolding.||A pane of glass was missing from one of my windows and was temporarily repaired with board and tape.||||So far I deem this an inauspicious start and I am not looking forward to the rest of my stay. About the only positive thing about the place is it's proximity to Bradford on Avon ( about three minutes down the road).||||I've now been at The Old Ham Tree for a couple of days now and to be honest it's not great. The TV is a shared item which is located in the breakfast room and it doesn't even work properly the signal on every channel is unwatchable. The walls are paper thin and I have been subjected to the extremely loud snores from the neighbouring rooms and it has made for some very disturbed nights and very poor sleep. The bathroom containing a shower and toilet are a communal arrangement although there is an additional toilet just next to it.||||Wednesday night and a note has been shoved under my door, written on the back of my invoice for my stay, it advises me that I can pay at 8am the following morning or telephone to pay. I am completely taken aback as I wasn't supposed to be checking out till Friday morning. I made my way downstairs at just before 8am the following day ( Thursday) as I was unable to get any answer on the telephone the previous evening to discover that, to top everything off the staff have completely messed up my booking and instead of booking my room from Monday through to Friday, (a four night stay) it has been booked only until Thursday when I had to check out. In spite of me coming into the pub to book this in person it's still been messed up.||Apparently I should have been presented a bill when I checked in to pay for the room in advance; this never happened. If it had, I could have spotted the error and booked the 'extra' night.||In conclusion, I would not in good conscience, be able to recommend this...

Read moreMy wife and I stayed here after visiting stonehenge and we received a warm welcome on checking into this lovely old pub and restaurant. We were shown to our room which was compact but nice and airy. We had the use of the shared bathroom and kitchen facilities which was well stocked with coffee and tea making facilities and cereals and bread and preserves for the incuded breakfast . The pub has a lovely beer garden where you could spend all day soaking in the atmosphere in fact it was so good we decided to have our evening meal out there that we had booked for the restaurant to which was no trouble to the staff to change for us . My wife and I ordered the fishcakes and the fish and chips respectively and all.i can say is it was absolutely beautifully cooked to perfection so much so that I cleared my plate and wasn't even that hungry :) and was washed down with a pint of one of the several real ale 's they have in sale and was very nice . So all in all if you don't mind sharing the bathroom facilities or kitchen for just a cereal and toast breakfast I would strongly recommend this lovely b &b which is set in a lovely little village with friendly locals and the staff will do anything they can to make your stay more enjoyable. Thanks will defo...
