Food and service ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️, rooms ⭐️. This review is a tale of two halves, the food was really good pub food and the staff were relaxed but very attentive and professional. The seating areas outside were lovely and added to the experience. The rooms on the other hand were awful. Very cramped, and stiflingly hot, but not even a fan to try and cool you down. I (tried to) sleep with a wet towel on my back to Cook me down and it was still too hot. There was a tiny window, but this faces the garden and car park and for some reason has a bright light shining through it so it was bright as day throughout the night. The noise from outside meant it was impossible to sleep and the mattress was as cheap and old as they come. It’s outrageous to charge for a room like this. To top it all, when booking we’d been told it was dog friendly, yet when we arrived they said none of their rooms are dog friendly (although they did allow us into our room with our dog). I’d return for a nice walk and lunch, but I’d advise anyone against staying at the Tollgate Inn.

Had a lovely overnight stay for business. The room was a small double but was perfectly sized for just me. Lovely cosy setting in the room. Bathroom did need a bit of love as it is a bit outdated, but everything was clean and the shower heat and strength were fine. Dinner was amazing, not the cheapest pub food but it was worth it for the price. Breakfast was also exceptional quality and very tasty. Only couple of things that made this stay 4 stars instead of 5. My room was overlooking the two mini roundabouts which from 5am onwards meant there was a lot of road noise, I appreciate it's an old building but if you're a light sleeper you will notice it. Also although the breakfast was amazing, it's only served between 8-9am, so for a work trip was a bit late for me as I had to delay my meeting. I would definitely stay again if needed. And if you're in the area looking for a meal, this place is definitely worth visiting!

Stayed in the inn on a warm weekend. Our room was called Jake. Although convenient enough for a one night’s stay in terms of a layout it was far too hot. Granted it was a warm day but there were no provisions for the room to be made cooler. No fan. Additionally, there was a light attached to the exterior of the inn which shone directly into our window. This made it tricky to sleep as well as mean that the blind was down and not letting any air in. Service was super friendly and professional. Breakfast and dinner were both delicious a highlight was the mussels. Access to some lovely walks from there. Parking on site.

Absolutely appalling experience. Our family booked this pub for a large gathering (20+ people) and were assured there would be vegan and vegetarian options available. The menu had only one item marked "vegan option available" with no details, so I emailed for clarification—no response. After 24 hours, I called and was met with unprofessionalism beyond belief. The first lady laughed at my request for more information, admitted she had no idea, then proceeded to suggest completely non-vegan dishes before mocking me to a colleague as she handed over the phone. When I finally spoke to the manager, his attitude wasn’t much better. He dismissed my concerns, admitted they don’t really cater for vegans because “we hardly ever have them in,” and brushed off the barmaid’s rudeness with no apology, or even recognition that it was an issue. At first, the information given about the 'vgo' was good, they replaced the bun and cheese on the bean burger with vegan alternatives, however, when it came to the coleslaw and chips, i was told it would be guacamole. After i suggested that this wasn't really a meal alternative (no starters or desserts, just a burger with not sides) he begrudgingly to have something else cooked as an afterthought rather than genuine hospitality. By that point, I had zero trust in their ability to provide a safe, let alone enjoyable, meal. An absolute disaster! If you have dietary requirements—or just expect basic professionalism—avoid this place...

We stayed in the separate converted barn, as you walk through its little private courtyard garden and into the property you are greeted with a light airy and spacious property.||The kitchen is well stocked and we’re comfortably able to make meals in the property. We did have a problem where the fridge broke down and both housekeeping and Brandon the manager were on the ball and got it sorted. ||We have a new born baby and they provided a lovely travel cot for us to use. ||The bathroom is a good size, with a powerful shower. ||One thing that would be good to add into the property is a coffee table of sorts in the lounge area. When your sitting and chilling (had to do a lot of that as the weather was so bad) we used a kitchen chair as a table in the lounge as it’s a little awkward putting the drinks and things on the floor, plus you worry about knocking it over onto the rug. It’s so minor though and only an ebi.||We had both breakfast and dinner in the restaurant and both were delicious. The ingredients was fresh and good sized portions. They clearly put a lot of passion into the restaurant. It is such a lovely relaxing atmosphere with a nice fire. ||Special thank you to both Brandon and the housekeeper (sorry I didn’t get your name). You were both so tentative and welcoming, which really makes the stay. ||We...

Had a great stay here for 3 days. Great welcome when we arrived. We had a double room in the front of the inn, lovely room, nice and bright, plenty of storage. We did hear the traffic in the mornings and we had the window closed so perhaps in the warmer weather it may disturb you. Lovely big shower and gorgeous toiletries. Great idea having them in holders on the wall so no waste. Plenty of teas/ coffees on the welcome tray. We were in the side part of the inn so had our own entrance up some stone steps so not ideal if you have mobility problems. Loved that lights came on as you walked along the hallways. Bed lovely and comfy and we had great nights sleeps. The breakfast was served in the bar, which was so lovely with lovely decor. Brendan was very attentive and helpful with local info. The breakfast was absolutely delicious, hubby had full English and I had cereals followed by the scrambled eggs on granary toast oh both were so delicious and tasty. The crockery was pottery and so beautiful. We were made feel very welcome. We didn’t eat here in the evenings but the menu looked amazing. We will definitely stay here again if we are in that area again. Thank you all for making our stay so lovely. Also a plus free car parking !! As it was so wet we didn’t explore the village but driving through it looked a...
