It's our first time in Cornwall celebrating a birthday. We heard lots of good things about this restaurant so we were very much looking forward to it. I have been to several fine dining places before. Observations: The customer services is the best of all restaurants I've been to - timely call to acknowledge special requests, a birthday card upon arrival and a gift bag upon leaving, and finally a customized thank you letter afterwards. I had to say the thank you letter was a real pleasant surprise - I was impressed that Izzy remembered our quick chit chat between the courses and the email was clearly not generic.
The food was wonderful, the quality and freshness of the ingredient was evident. My favorite was the scallops - I usually do not like them but the satisfying texture won my heart this time. I liked all of their savory dishes more than the desserts - except the Yesterday's Scone, which is now my favorite ice cream-like dessert and I am actually sad that I can't buy it anywhere else. I would give the food 4.5 stars, as sadly I don't actually like the rest of the desserts. Overall, this is a fantastic meal, unlike some fancy restaurants where presentation is everything and there's no flavour in food.
The restaurant is rather small, tables relatively close together and hence 4 starts. Padstow is a beautiful town, I only realized that on the day and sadly we didn't have time to stay. I would even say skip St Ives and just do Padstow. Parking is a nightmare - the advised public parking lot was full, so was nearby street parking and one house owner was actually outside stopping tourists parking near his house, so we ended up showing up late because we had to park far away. To make things worse, there was constructions all along the highway. Moral of the story, leave early and leave plenty of buffer room during...
Read moreLast minute Dinner booking. It's been a number of years since our first visit. In fact it's that long ago,Paul had not been there too long himself either. To our shame we have only just managed to re-visit.Although last year we did go to Caffè Rojano and that was because we couldn't get in here, but still lovely. As soon as we booked,we received a phone call asking if there's any special requirements and the names of the diners. This shows true customer service. So we finally made it back. We were greeted at the door and shown to our table right next to the kitchen. What's on the table? Personalised menus. That displays the attention to detail they go to.
Although it's a tasting menu, it is explained to you as there are two choices of starters and mains. We chose one of each obviously. We're not going to go through each course as they were all beatifully presented and delicious. A couple of the chefs served the turbot dish which we loved and on tasting the fish, brought a tear of joy. The pigeon was so tender and the cod, just perfect. Not forgetting the delightful desserts.
The staff are incredibly knowledgeable, professional and super friendly. You can just tell they love their job. We were even shown to the kitchen to meet the very talented chefs and a look at the amazing kitchen upstairs. We had the most fantastic evening & truly memorable. This has got to be one our best dining experiences ever, and we've had just a few of them. If you are ever going to try a fine dining restaurant. Then look no further than here as this is the epitomy of hospitality at the top of their game. It certainly deserves an extra star from...

We came Cornwall in the late November for a short holiday and booked a lunch on Tuesday at Paul Ainsworth following the recommendation from the landlord at the cottage we stay. We booked the table 3 weeks ahead of our visit and I would imagine far more ahead will be needed if it’s the summer period.
The experience was the best of all of my fine-dining experiences. Every course was carefully crafted and the taste was amazing! Many little surprises that came as treats along the meal, in between courses.
The decoration of the restaurant was also amazing. There were only 10-ish tables and all well-spaced out, so you can enjoy your own conversation with full privacy.
The service was amazing. We had one staff looking after us throughout the meal, but a few others also check in to make sure we’ve got enough drinks. What I like the most is that the staff really made a good effort to introduce the source of the Ingredients (most of them are locally sourced in Cornwall). Also, really appreciate the staff folded up my napkin every time I left I seat. Just very good service.
Their non-alcohol wines - jukes - were great too. Love their wine glasses.
Will definitely come back again the next time we visit Cornwall and highly recommend if you like fine-dining...
