I think, like all places in Cornwall, The London Inn is suffering from a shortage of staff, coupled with the cost of living crisis which inevitably means that there’s less money to pay those staff/buy ingredients etc. Our room “Clipper” looked lovely, spacious and at first glance seemed good. But, the carpet was filthy, I don’t think it had seen a vacuum cleaner since the last guests had left, the toilet was dirty so I set about cleaning it with loo brush (not something you really want to do at the start of your stay), there was an empty hairspray container on the window sill and an empty cap from something else on the dressing table. The tea bags were very stale (didn’t try the coffee) and the carpets on the stairs and hallway were really filthy, probably in need of a good industrial clean as opposed to a vacuum. Our friends stayed in another room so I can’t comment on that one. All four of us had an evening meal and a breakfast. The breakfast was good, served promptly and good sized portions. The evening meal was okay. The starters (mackerel pate, chicken wings and salt and pepper calamari with curried mayonnaise) were very good. The mains were not so good. The Butchers sausages were pretty tasteless, the sweet potato curry with prawns and fish and rice had no sweet potatoes and was probably the worst curry I’ve had in a long time - I couldn’t eat it all as it just wasn’t very nice. The battered cod and chips were ok. The only saving grace for this place is the staff, they all work really hard, are always smiling and obviously trying to do their every best in hard times. I’m saddened to have to write an average review but hopefully the staff (who were delightful) will...
