Padstow being one of those typical magnets for holiday makers in the summer, the Golden Lion gives a good, Cornish pub experience. From that perspective I like it. And it does real ale. Big tick! We were visiting family friends and had gone for lunch. The young ladies serving us were very polite, courteous and credit to the establishment. However, the one who prepared our drinks brought a lemonade and lime in a pint glass for an 80 year old lady and a pint of cider for my wife!! The ham ploughmans wasn't as expected, but that's just a personal thing; the scampi was lovely; but the battered fish (and chips) was 2cm thick in batter all over, which made it look huge, but was 70% batter and not a lot of fish. Very disappointed. Overall not put off going...

Having been warmly welcomed, we both enjoyed a lovely prawn starter, then for mains, delicious sausages and mash and a baked cod dish. All the food tasted amazing and we were looking forward to dessert. Unfortunately the dessert menu did not include anything suitable for someone with lactose intolerance. When I asked what they could do, the only thing the chef could offer was a bowl of plain fresh fruit. They couldn’t even offer a dairy free or vegan ice cream to accompany the fruit. We decided to forego the dessert, and left the pub really disappointed. This was such a shame as the first two courses were lovely. If it wasn’t for the dessert issue, this would have been a 5...

I loved the rost lunch apart from the proportions are not want I thought. If you want a lunch for two I would recommend to just get one large proportion then 2 large proportions as it is too much and it felt like I had to eat it all. Otherwise, the atmosphere was nice apart from how the staff kept forgetting things such as, a spoon with a coffee and also apple sauce when asked what source I would have liked. However, it is a lovely small pub but it is probably better for having drinks. In contrast, it is a very nice pub but I shall probably go there for a non acaholic drink again as there coffee's are nice, compared to...

Dropped in for lunch on a visit to Padstow, having cycled up the Camel Trail from Wadebridge. Was a busy day in Padstow, and in the Golden Lion. We ordered a Ceasar Salad and the Ploughman's, which took a while to arrive due to the busyness of the place. Both were worth the wait, very well presented and with taste to match. A pint of the Patchwork Rocket complimented my Ploughman's to a tee! Would definitely recommend both the place and the food.

The Longroom is behind and run by the folks at The Golden Lion, Padstow. It is wonderful. Beautifully decorated, wonderfully equipped, gorgeous bathroom, lovely bedroom (with plenty of storage space) and comfy bed. Plus, it's own garage (rarer than hens teeth in Padstow!). Location is central, but quiet, with everything just yards away. The management charming - they cook good too! Can't recommend this highly enough; should have a 6th star.

Wife and I visited there twice on our recent UK trip on the recommendation of our Airbnb host. She was NOT wrong. The meals there were amazing, the staff were amazing and gr8 selection of beers to try to finish off two fantastic nights in Padstow. Lovely ambience and decor inside and out. Thanks guys for making our stay in Padstow memorable. Steve & Angelique Soper (Australia)
