Pond House — Restaurant in England

This is a favourite of my daughter and as it on my way home and close to my home I have often wanted to stop for a meal and a quick drink on Friday nights. This I did and found my daughter and some friends already there and who had already eaten, when I entered at 8.35pm on Friday. My son in law was already at the bar getting drinks and bought me one, whilst I waited to order food. I finally got to order at 8.56 pm and was told ''kitchen closed!' It must have been my night because when I went to my local fish and chippie they were on holiday and another one was closed at 9.30pm! Last Saturday you would expect it to be busy with Rugby Internationals on but no extra staff were evident. Sunday evening I was about to pop out to have a drink after finishing paperwork when some friends texted me to say they were going for a meal and I joined them. I always drink a NZ Savignon blanc and the first glass was warm. When I ordered a second glass and told the young lady serving me she said it could not be at it had just come from the cellar. Then your cellar is warm or you must have left the top off it and not used a Vacu Vin...

Usually a nice place to have drinks. But today we ordered food and unfortunately the experience was less than ideal. We ordered three basic dishes (all day breakfasts). These took 50 minutes to get to our table! When inquiring about the status of our order, we were told that the kitchen was very busy. However, there was only one other table having food and the chap whom I can only assume is the chef was wandering around outside having a smoke. When the food arrived, my friend was served a chip that had gone off/tasted like mud and had a strong unpleasant smell. When we told the server, he said that this was normal and that some chips have an "earthy" taste. Needless to say, we are aware of what chips are meant to taste like. I also believe the grill may not have been the cleanest because my food was charred and had a questionable aftertaste. On the whole a nice place to have drinks, but will will not be getting...

We decided to let someone else take the stress and strain from the Christmas Dinner this year. We found the Pond House pub at Maidenhead on the Green King website and the Christmas menu looked good. So decided to put ourselves in their hands for Christmas day. How happy we were to have done so, Jacquie ,Paul and their team were extremely good hosts, and moreover the meal was excellent particularly the turkey was cooked to perfection, we were a party of 12 and everyone enjoyed the meal and service .
