A Hidden Gem in Cornwall Worth Every Mile
Porthmellin Café is the kind of place that makes a six-hour drive from London feel like a pilgrimage rather than a journey. Nestled in a postcard-perfect fishing village, with sweeping views of the sea, it embodies everything one could hope for in a family-run establishment: warmth, authenticity, and a genuine love for what they do.
From the moment we stepped in, we felt at home. The lady who served us â I suspect the owner herself â greeted my wife, daughter, and me with the sort of kindness you canât fake. The interior is charmingly simple, the view from the window spectacular, and the food⊠well, letâs just say itâs the very definition of homemade comfort.
We ordered a jacket potato with butter, a fluffy omelette for our daughter, and the âsmallâ English breakfast for ourselves â which, in true Cornish generosity, was anything but small. Perfectly cooked eggs, golden toast, bacon with just the right balance of crispness and flavour, and rich, comforting beans. Coffee or tea was included, served the proper way.
Itâs the sort of place where the food speaks of tradition, the atmosphere speaks of community, and every bite makes you slow down and savour the moment. Porthmellin CafĂ© isnât just a cafĂ© â itâs part of what makes Cornwall so special.

Read moreHaving arrived in Mullion the day before we decided to walk down to the Harbour along with our little Border Terrier and came across Porthmellin Tea Room, what a brilliant find. When we entered we were very warmly welcomed by the lady who owned the tea room. The room was cosy and welcoming with colourful cloths on the tables and lovely chairs. The two dressers had lovely china on the shelves and a number of books. The food was superb, my choice was a Fresh Crab sandwich which came with salad, a bowl of slaw, potato salad and a sprinkle of crisps. My husband's choice was a reduced breakfast, which looked absolutely delicious and it was. Although we were the first ones in, the tea room started to fill up. Before long we were all chatting between the tables and thoroughly enjoying ourselves along with our host who really was a...
Read moreWe went in this afternoon for the all day full English breakfast. £7.10 each so we were expecting a full plate of food each, instead we had 1 sausage, 1 egg, beans and 2 rashers of bacon each. When I asked where the tomatoes and mushrooms were I was told they are extra?! Don't advertise a full English to only give us half a job. We did get our drinks free but so we should! They offer a reduced breakfast (god knows what you would actually for for the for £4.95) customer service wasn't great. We left cash on the table to hear the staff say 'quick check they have left money on the table' rather than coming out and apologising for the rubbish meal! Appauling! We certainly won't be revisting and don't recommend you do unless you aren't hungry and don't mind skimpy portions and paying through the earth for them. Huge...
