Winner! Prima’s saffron cake is amazing! Cornish saffron cake seems to have been getting very dry in texture and unappetising for years, and I have been searching for 3 decades to find one that replicates what I remember having from a Cornish bakery when I was a child on holiday. When I bought Prima’s version, I didn’t hold out much hope except it had won awards. The result? Oh wow! It tastes moist, flavoursome and, finally, I can stop searching. If I could only eat one saffron cake for the rest of my life, it’d be Prima’s. It deserves every awards going.
I went back and bought more saffron cakes on the way home (2 as gifts, for family members of Cornish origin who were equally impressed are now Prima fans too).
I was tempted by the Belgian buns, Hevva cake, and the Cheddar Cheese & Red Onion Chutney Gourmet Sausage Roll too. They were also really tasty. What a top notch bakery! It is full with lots of goodies and choice - fresh and frozen. Definitely worth a visit and only minutes...
Read moreAllthough we have had pasties from Prima for a few years now the quality seems to have dropped. The content is more mushy and the pastry is not as good. We have had them delivered frozen but also cooked from their base but they are the same. Two weeks ago on holiday down Cornwall and with covid about I queued for some time to get my fresh pasties. I didnt complain of this but when I asked for 2 dozen frozen ones to take home I was told to go to the outlet area that sold frozen pasties. I did this but when I asked to buy the cooler box to keep them frozen I was told to go back to the main shop. As the queu was long I asked why they didn't tell me that in the first place all I got was a shrug of the shoulders. Hence I left without my two dozen frozen pasties and Prima lost a good sale. I regularly order on line for their pasties but feel the quality has slipped somewhat and so has...
Read moreLast week I was in the unfortunate position of running out of bread so I visited a corner shop and saw Prima Bakeries 'Large Granary Farmhouse Sliced' loaf, with little other choice in the shop I bought the loaf. However when I got home and read the ingredients I was shocked and saddened to see that the loaf contains PALM OIL! There is absolutely no need to include palm oil in bread that should consist of only flour, water & yeast. I am horrified that Prima Bakeries proudly displays St Piran's flag on a product that contributes to the destruction of rainforest and the creatures that depend on it far from Cornwall. I will certainly ensure I go without bread in future rather than resorting to buying this bread. I hope that Prima Bakeries will review its use of palm oil and act responsibly, I look forward to hearing that Prima Bakeries have gone palm oil free in the VERY...
