Super quality food on offer. Friendly staff, quick service and generous portions available though smaller portions available on request. Having been asked by Google Maps whether there was a wheelchair accessible entrance I answered no as there is a non-automated double door to enter and a small step of approximately 3.5 inches to negotiate, whilst less than ideal for a single wheelchair user to negotiate, I think it would be quite easy should a wheelchair user come with a friend. It would certainly be a worthwhile effort in my opinion as Proper Ansome is constantly busy, due to having reasonably priced, well cooked and cooked to order food available. They also often offer a specials board menu featuring items that appear for a short time - on a grab them whilst you can basis. If they happen to have the fish, chips & peas meal on.. In my opinion given I like fish & chips, you'd be a mug not to try them. To see just how popular this cafe is you need to understand, this cafe is set away from the main road and accessed only by those in the know or who have been made aware of it by word of mouth or reading a recommendation like this.. Despite that Proper Ansome has already built a large and faithful clientele & is rarely IF ever quiet! The photographs which I have most recently supplied show the cafe frontispiece during opening hours, looking in on the hive of activity which is so indicative of a cafe serving well priced, well cooked foods. Do not be surprised if you have to share a table with one or more strangers if you dine alone.. Remember also that a stranger get is a stranger only until you...
Ā Ā Ā Read morePreviously had breakfast here on many occasions, usually very good service and good value. However latest experience has left me seeking out another breakfast cafe.
Arrived on a Saturday, we did expect it to be busy as it was raining. Table available however was cramped as we had our 2 kids. Table still had plates and cutlery from the last customers.
Ordered our food, recent price increase however in current times to be expected. Sat down to wait. 20 minutes passed and no one had cleared out table, another 20 minutes still no food or cleared table.
By this point several customers had come in and been served food some 10 minutes prior, we asked about our order and they apologised. Other customers were saying how long they had been waiting.
Food was good as always.
Sadly all new staff since last visit. Disorganised with staff at times stood idle waiting for others to catch up. Tables left cluttered with new customers moving dirty plates to other tables when their food arrived.
Overall a disappointing experience, good food overshadowed by poor service, and long wait times. Lack of concise leadership within kitchen area. If this service level keeps up then customers will go elsewhere. I most...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy original review has 'mysteriously' vanished, so I am adding it once more. I popped in here at 8.30am one morning, for a quick stop, intended for breakfast for two. The order process was fine, but everything went pear shaped after that. You've actually got to leave the restaurant to access the toilets, and someone else took over our table whilst we were having a whizz. The breakfast took an incredulous thirty minutes to materialise (and on the morning in question the customer seating was only about 15% occupied) which was excessively slow. The ambient temperature inside the restaurant was also excessive. We (and other diners) had to exit the place and mop the sweat off our brows outside. The weather wasn't anything but overcast and dreary, so quite why it was hot inside is unclear. At best the English breakfasts were mediocre, and I could name dozens of other cafes which are far better. The standards of this establishment were so awful that I would never wish to drop-by this place another time.
The derogatory retort from the owner supports what I am saying about the bad attitude and service...
