We visited 19/2/22 Nice little pub full of olde world charm, with a warmth of character from the building and from the friendly landlords from Manchester. They've been running the pub since December 2021 and only started serving food in the last couple of weeks, very tasty and very well presented too, my husband and I had the 100% homemade beefburgers (I'm not much of a fan of burgers but I saw one come from the kitchen for another customer and just had to try one) it didn't disappoint it was awesome โ˜บ๏ธ Our friends had the steak and ale pies that should have been with mash and veg but they asked if they could have chips instead, and their request was met. Locals and tourists all friendly and chatting together and their dogs were made welcome too (with the fella from the bar bringing out dog chews for them). Tony and Scott (hope I got the names correct) are doing a grand job. One tiny thing is the smokey/soot smell in the snug due to a blocked flue, so the open fire wasn't lit in this room but they are in the process of getting that sorted so as soon as that's sorted 5/5. Food 10/10 ๐Ÿ˜‹ My husband said it was the best pint he had for the whole weekend too, pint of real ale called Eureka. Thanks for the lovely welcome and the lovely food fellas. Toni, Gary & friends ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿ‘Œ

I loved this pub - what a slice of history! There's graffiti on the window from 1824 and a message written on new years day. The guy behind the bar was very helpful and helped us take pictures of it from good angles. Theres multiple rooms and lots of original features. The staff were friendly and let us have an order of roast sides which weren't on the menu. These were delicious.

Excellent food, fantastic and friendly customer service, great range of local ales, very reasonable prices. A real fire on chilly days if needed and a good outdoor seating area on those lovely sunny days. A traditional old classic pub with a wonderful history and full of character.

Weโ€™ve being exploring the lakes camping for the last 5 days trying all different pubs and cafes but this one topped them all โ€ฆ as a cafe owner my self thereโ€™s a way of talking to customers and the manager or owner or whatever he was was so beyond rude we left !

As a group of 5 we was ready for a brilliant meal walked in asked politely for menus when the man behind the bar called over in front of other customers โ€œ do you have any weed on you because you smell of it so youโ€™ll have to go outside .โ€ I have never being so humiliated in my life a group of hardworking people being loudly embarrassed in front of other people !

None of us have touched cannabis and to be accused was disgraceful.

We left immediately so heads up donโ€™t waste your money here in the drab grotty pub get your self to the Shakespeare the food is 5* and the service 5* !

Appalling and shocking...

Quaint old fashioned pub with a querky layout. The staff seamed friendly but the prices seemed high, but I guess that's the way things are going in this economic crisis. I believe they now do food, which I confess I've not tried, but two gents who were there at the time were complimenting the staff after their food. Also of interest there is now some outside seating at what I understand is one of the only public houses on consecrated...
