Note: the following review is based on the lunch menu. Not breakfast or evening meals. Nice food with an OK presentation. I do think the reviews have overrated this Cafe. Their lunch menu is based on what essentially are sandwiches with a garnish. At £9 per sandwich it is high end of the spectrum. I would want a very special sandwich for that price, something different. This is not the case here. Although the sandwiches are OK, nothing special about them and in particular for that price. The Mayonnaise is heavy on every plate and so is the dressing on the garnish. Coffe is normal as well as their cakes. We had the lemon and poppy seed cake and again nothing to rave about. Staff and no issues there. Did feel the place was a bit sloppy and not so professional. Still nothing else in the area like this and for that reason it gets the 3 🌟 . If it was in a place with a lot of competition it would only get 2 🌟. Sorry guys but the prices are too high. You are a cafeteria after all. Your dish of the day priced at £38 is way way too steep for you guys. Michelin listed restaurants like the one in Bamburgh has dishes cheaper than yours...

Staying locally for a few days. Heard about their breakfast, so tried it. We are a 4 some couple, 3 of us went for breakfast. I think we timed it perfectly, got busier during our visit. Service was perfectly paced, no pressure. I chose kippers, the current wife had poached eggs on toast, friend had eggs Benedict. Tea arrived - marvellous, nice pot and cups etc. Food arrived together, piping hot and nicely presented. Just beautiful, everything was tasty and well presented. No time pressure, coffee finished. Brilliant. Saw the evening menu, so booked for the next night………. Revue next !!!!!

We went to this place at lunch time as a cafe which was rather average to be honest. However we decided to return for the evening menu as a bistro, we were very pleased with the food and the service. The mains were lovely, we ordered the stone bass risotto, the stone bass was chunky fresh fish, which just melted in your mouth. And the seafood platter was a range of gorgeous, fresh fish. We managed to squeeze in a dessert, the chocolate orange brownie was amazing and huge! I had to take some of it away. Overall a lovely experience, would highly recommend a visit on an evening.

We popped in about 6.30 to ask for a table but were requested to sit outside even though there was ample space inside. We were waiting over 1 hr for food however when it finally arrived they had forgotten 1 main meal & 1 other had been made badly with us refusing to eat it. We were told our main meal had been forgotten & it was inedible when it arrived. We were told the risotto is made a day ahead to save time!!! We were unable to eat together as a family & when I asked to pay- we were told to leave. Such a shame. We come every year & will give this place a miss in future.

Response to owner's comments: I am afraid that some of your comments are inaccurate. I agree that you accommodated us to sit outside as a walk in booking however it felt like you should not have, as you were unable to deal with the 3 meals we ordered. We ordered 2 adult meals (1 of which was missed) and 1 chicken nuggets for our 3 children to share as we had been waiting so long that they were hungry. We waited for over 1 hour 15 mins for any food. I did not speak at all rudely to the girl FOH, nor did I shout at her at any point. She was clearly out of her depth and immediately burst into tears as she could not correct the mistakes made by you in the kitchen. It was this girl who told me the risotto was made the day ahead. I found this strange, as I cook risotto myself at home and this must be cooked fresh and takes at least 20 minutes to make to be at all enjoyable and not resemble porridge. When it arrived 5 mins later, I tasted this to find normal rice in a sauce. It was not arborio risotto rice, but looked more like a microwave rice floating in some veg stock. I found this inedible, which I told her politely that I would not eat it. I find it very frustrating that a customer who has had a bad experience with you is unable to honestly leave a review without being personally attacked by the owners to defend themself. I am sorry the young girl was upset by the incident however so were we as a family. It was our last night of our holiday and we were looking forward to a meal together, which I am afraid was ruined due to...

We found this place by happy accident, we arrived in the area and decided to stay for some mid morning refreshments, we checked the car's navigation system for cafes selected the Salt Water Cafe, but the navigation system was taking us somewhere else, so we looked to find a place to turn around and luckily found the Salt Water Cafe. We were given a warm welcome from the staff who were friendly, helpful and professional, the generous pot of tea we were brought was very good and refreshing, the breakfast rolls were really tasty, you could taste each of the ingredients. The cafe was comfortable, well decorated and had a really nice ambience, the customers were mixture of locals, tourists and workmen. The toilets were of a very high standard. Prices were very reasonable. The cafe served food all day and had an enticing lunch and evening menu, but we were on the move. If I am in the area again this will be my first choice, if you are in the area please...
