Spice Lounge — Restaurant in England

If you are Indian, you will not like this food. There was way too much oil, not enough thurka and the Tandoori Roti's I ordered were not baked properly (still doughy at the edges). I was so disappointed with my take away lunch from this place that I literally binned my entire meal.

I especially asked for my food to be Indian spicy (hot) and when I turned up to collect it, I could hear the chef arguing with the hostess saying "it is fine, I have thrown in some spice!" in Bangladeshi. Well, if you like Gora-bland style, then it is fine.

But this food is not authentic and not tailored for people with an Indian palette. I can tell the difference between food that has been pre-made and stored or poured from a tin/jar against real fresh cooked food that has just been made using fresh ingredients.

I feel bad for them if this review comes across harsh, but at the end of the day, I wanted a decent lunch and paid them reasonable money for it, but instead I got something that a half drunk student could have done better.

A bowl of cereal would have been a better meal. On the plus side, there is plenty of room for improvement! :) Start by firing the chef and find someone who actually enjoys cooking. You can't really go wrong...

Decided to try somewhere new and support a local business tonight... wish we hadn't. To start, something small that could easily be overlooked if this was the only negative to our experience- we were made to share a food menu. Thought it was strange but maybe it was something to do with Covid? Not the case, as the next group sat had a menu each. Weird. Anyway, moving on. At no point during the booking experience did we discover that it was a bring your own booze place. Even the confirmation text didn't state this- think it should just to ensure your guests know before turning up, so that was a bit of a disappointment. Service was shockingly slow, took ages to get our order taken. Starters took an hour to come out, followed by another 30 min wait for our mains. Starters were nice, wouldn't write home about the mains at all. To top it off, the only reason someone took our payment is because we were about to walk out the door after yet another wait. Hate to leave a bad review, particularly right now when businesses need all the custom they can get, but this place was a real let down. Unfortunately, we...

Such a shame that the delivery service completely let this down. We ordered at 7.45 expecting a 45 min delivery timescale. Called at 8.35 to be told it had left, nothing by 9 so called again to be told the same, by 9.30 still nothing and now the phone was constantly engaged. So we went to the restaurant, the food arrived whilst we were at the restaurant around 9.45 so 2 hours to deliver. If we were told the truth through all of this it wouldn’t have mattered as we were in no rush, but to constantly be told lies it’s just not good enough. The restaurant did refund our money, primarily because they could not tell me what time the food had left for delivery. So still not quite sure if it was the restaurant or Uber eats that got this so wrong. A real shame as we’ve been customers for a number of years and always enjoyed the food. Unfortunately this experience has not left a good taste. We were not the only ones on the evening to experience this, two other customers arrived around the same time with longer waits than we’d gone through.
