We have been going to the springwood for a few years, but the last year has not been good, and as the food and service has got worse and at our last visit the food took a long time to arrive and when it did it was really poor quality, my photo is the veggie burger, I asked for 2 extra cheese slices there was barely a single slice of cheese it was so thin you could see the burger underneath clearly, the burger itself was not more than 12mm thick and nothing at all like the picture the flavour was bland, the bun was the sort of thing you get in a multi pack from Aldi/food warehouse etc, I made it clear I really don't want tomato on it, it arrived with 2½ thick slices, the lettuce had wilted very quickly, there were just a fries and were not crisped the tips on 5 were green, there was also a strange coleslaw odd colour and flavour this meal was £15.99 for mine alone, no drink that was on top and arrived half way through the meal, our service was only hampered by the new waitress and I can't say a word against her apart from her mistakenly taking my son's food away when he was clearly only halfway through his meal of 4 sweetcorn sections and spaghetti Bolognese (ropy at best) she asked if we were finished and we said that we were by the fact our knives and forks were together and my wife's plate and mine were were ready, I was talking directly to my wife and the waitress had left then my wife noticed that she had taken my son's plate and food, so when she returned my wife asked her if we could have his plate of food back, but it was to late and in the bin, we asked for a half meal discount (bearing in mind we would need to home and cook something else for our son) she left to speak to the manager, then returned to say that they would give us a £1.49p discount, needless to say we spoke to the manager who was abrupt, rude and dismissive, he reluctantly took off my son's meal and said that we were at fault and that it wouldn't be happening again (how right he is we will not be visiting the near empty establishment again) over the years from time to time we have eaten at the greasy spoon roadside cafe and we have eaten far better food than the springwood, we should have gone to Sutton Hall, eaten far better, paid less and with great service. P S the conversation about the springwood came up at work and 3 people said that they have stopped going there over...
Read moreThe first time we went on 16th December 2017 I posted a rave review. That review said "Delicious and hot food. Good portion sizes. We were really impressed and will return." We did return on 7th January 2018 and I have had to edit and downgrade this review from 4 star to 1 star. AWFUL - I can't believe how bad it was. When we went in December I had to return my main course as I ordered Gammon and in error they added the blackened rub which I didn't want... was sorted out. We also wanted to return as the menu had so many great choices on. When we returned this week the menu had changed and there were not as many great choices. I went for the potato skins starter and gammon again. This time we had an even longer wait for food. The potato skins were cold, I just ate them I was so hungry. When the gammon arrived it was cold, I told the waiter it was cold and he said he couldn't understand how because he had just seen the chef take it off the heat. When he returned with a piping hot one later he was still a bit off hand. I said the other one was cold did you touch it...he said "no I don't make a habit of touching food" - I said the only reason I did was because my starter was cold. It was then we noticed that almost everyone else in the restaurant was complaining about their food - most of it being sent back because it was too cold. We will NEVER go to this place again. Over £38 for the two of us, a very grumpy waiter who huffed and puffed and all in all over 2 hours to have a quick meal... really poor and very disappointing having given us high hopes only a matter of...
Read moreI booked the Springwood for my husbands 40th birthday surprise meal based on word of mouth recommendations. During booking, I was told we would have the conservatory set up for ourselves, so it was a little more private for us, and we could decorate as we wish as long as no pesky confetti. On the day we arrived slightly earlier to set up decorations and talk through the plan with the host and he was fantastic playing his part in the surprise asking for names and gathering menus, talking seating options, all so my husband didn't catch on about the waiting guests.
The reason I chose Springwood initially was because of how on point they are regarding allergies, and as we ordered, this was apparent as each table was asked if they had any allergies. My daughters both have allergies, and the host was quick to get the allergy information and sat with us discussing all the safe options. Nothing seemed to be a bother. Even when I told him about my nut allergy for the desserts, he again sat with us double-checking what was safe for me to eat.
We had such an enjoyable evening, the food was amazing and the staff were so welcoming and lovely.
The next morning, we had breakfast and again quickly asked if anyone had allergies. The allergy information was brought out and discussed what was safe for the girls.
I will recommend Springwood to everyone, especially those with allergies. I felt confident that my girls and I were safe and would definitely dine...
