My visit to Starbucks at Newbury Retail Park was far from ideal. From reading other reviews, it seems that the quality of service here depends heavily on which staff are working, and unfortunately I experienced the worst of that inconsistency. The first member of staff who took my order looked completely disengaged, reacting with an eye-roll when I placed a slightly non-standard request – a response that felt rude and unprofessional. Their whole demeanour was disinterested and fed up, which is not what you expect when walking into a hospitality setting.
Matters didn’t improve with the barista preparing my drink, who moved at an excessively slow pace and gave the impression they would much rather be anywhere else. Service aside, the food offering was just as disappointing: a ham and cheese croissant that was served cold, which made me wonder if basic training on using the microwave has been overlooked.
There seems to be a recurring issue here with certain staff not meeting even a basic level of attentiveness or effort, which, when compared to other branches, really lets this store down. Based on this experience, I have no intention...
Read moreCozy atmosphere, okay-ish staff. Regarding food and drinks, very disappointing when you realise that everything has processed added sugar (even drinks like an iced coffee apparently) and wheat free options are not available. Staff was not very happy with all the different questions regarding allergens and not very knowledgeable as well. Which I can understand, if you provide the customer with a booklet or a list. Not the case. Staff member was not happy to search for the answers and actually recommended not to order anything, if I couldn't have normal food and drinks. I've complied for myself and just ordered for my family. Frustrating, as all I wanted was a smoothie or an iced coffee (coffee and ice??). Unfortunately, my wheat and sugar intolerance is pretty serious and I cannot afford to take risks because someone wasn't too keen on taking the extra bit to look for the store information on allergens. As far as "normal people" go, my family was happy with their...
Read moreWhile this starbucks is great and has a lot it does right, the issue my partner and I have (and what makes us go the 50m over the carpark to costa most of the time) is that the staff are not particularly friendly and will only do the minimum to get your order and move you along. Ontop of that, we went in while quiet today; There was no queue and only three tables occupied and yet they still had leftover rubbish and dishes on all but a few tables. One table in the window had it piled high as people had to move the last customers rubbish to sit anywhere, including us.
I think this starbucks only suffers due to the lack of drive and proactive effort from the staff. Which is thankfully something that can be worked on to bring it to a much better place in my opinion.
TLDR; Great in a lot of aspects, really bad in the main customer service side...
