We used to go to the Schezwan a fair bit but haven’t been for a while. Last night we decided to have a take away and was ultimately left disappointed. The prices seem to have increased a fair bit, but portions have pretty much halved. The food we received was absolutely doused in oil, so much so that we couldn’t eat most of it (curry, satay, black bean) we didn’t even get a complimentary bag of prawn crackers or bottle of drink like we used to after spending near on £70. Unfortunately have been put off by the place now and has gone right down hill. Will not be back.

Just went about a hour ago to pick some food. Well, food is about quality, taste and presentation. This one hasn't any of those qualities. Ordered "special chop suey " that came floating in sauce like in picture, prawn chow mein, and spring rolls. The chow mein is inedible, tastes like nothing, the spring rolls smell a rotten vegetables, disgusting and the chop suey is ok but half of it is sauce. There is no way to recommend such place. It is AWFUL! Worse Chinese restaurant I ever seen. Now I'm eating cup noodles. Waste my money for nothing.

We came here as a family to have an evening meal. We booked a table at 8pm, and had to wait on arrival to sit as we were the second sitting. It was 8.35pm before they took our food order. They did try to keep things moving but it was a late finish. We ordered the mixed set meal and the food kept coming. We don’t live locally and I thought it was quite good value for the quantity of food. The food was not always hot as it came out, and generally was quite sweet. The staff tried very hard and were very friendly.

I couldn't fault the members of staff, who were welcoming, friendly and attentive.

We had the Peking Feast for 5, 2 rounds of drinks and 5 desserts, which came to £170. Personally, I thought that was a lot for what we had, although others didn't seem to mind. However, the bill was not itemised, and was just a wad of scribbled notes stapled to the back of the printed total. This made it impossible to determine what each item cost, to split the bill, or whether the bill was accurate. I found this very unprofessional.

The starter was really enjoyable and tasty, but the main course was spoiled because the dishes contained far too much salt (or MSG, or a combination of the two). This was a shame, because everything else about the meal was very good. I was extremely dehydrated when I got home, and I really suffered for most of the following day, as my stomach felt awful.

This place has potential to be very good, and I could imagine myself eating there again and recommending it to others. However, with the two issues, which I feel are serious, I'm afraid I...

Went here for a party. I had called in advance to advise that I was a vegan and was assured that it was fine. I also advised the waiter on the night, so when he brought me a plate of delicious-looking food I had no problem tucking in. It tasted like tofu, so I only checked when the same waiter asked if I ate seafood. I said “No, I’m a vegan. What is this?” He told me it was chicken! I was absolutely fuming. Having not eaten chicken for 25 years, I was not only angry but really upset. He then confessed he didn’t know what a vegan is!!! Then when I got a replacement dish I said “so this has got no meat, no fish, no dairy and no eggs, correct?” He then proceeded to remove one of the items which was made with egg. I am staggered that a restaurant business does not seem to understand what a vegan is. Thank god I didn’t have any allergies is all I can say. Don’t go there if you are vegetarian or...

I agree with the earlier posting from Maureen.

I last visited approx 5 years ago and said at that time I wouldn't return due to the fact that we were rushed and were ignored when we asked if we could have a break between the courses. We felt we were pushed out by 10 pm.

Things have not changed a bit as the waiters were watching constantly to refill your drink before your last sip and the glass being put down on the table....they were there practically taking the glass from your hand.

We felt that because of this our conversation was constantly being interrupted. We did however ask for a ten minute break between the duck and the main course but felt that we were still being pressurised.

Cannot fault the actual food at all but would go elsewhere for a more relaxed evening.

A shame as I have known the restaurant for many years and would have thought these issues would have been...
