The Bounty is one of those rare gems that feels both tucked away and warmly welcoming the moment you arrive. I stopped here in the middle of a long walk and could not have chosen a better place to pause and recharge. From the outside it has all the charm you would expect of a traditional riverside pub, but once you step in you realise it offers far more than atmosphere alone. The service is attentive without being overbearing, which makes a big difference when you simply want to sit back and enjoy a well-earned rest. What really stood out to me was the tomato juice – I can honestly say it was the most flavourful I have ever tasted in any pub. Rich, fresh, and perfectly seasoned, it is proof that even something as simple as a drink can be prepared with genuine care and quality in mind. It is easy to imagine people coming back just for that. The seating, both inside and outside, invites you to linger. Indoors you get the comfort of a cosy pub with characterful décor, while outdoors you have the beauty of the riverside setting, which is wonderfully calming after a stretch of walking. It strikes the ideal balance between being lively and relaxing, so you never feel rushed to move on. Prices are fair for the quality offered, and the overall cleanliness and upkeep of the place add to the impression of professionalism. The Bounty manages to combine tradition with thoughtfulness in a way that feels effortless. In short, if you are in the area on a walk and looking for a perfect halfway stop, this pub is absolutely worth seeking out. Highly recommended, especially if you appreciate a superb...
Read moreDogs, muddy boots and children welcome! Always fabulous - if you know what to expect. A great pub with a great outdoors sitting area in a GREAT location on the driver Thames, opposite Bourne End marina. You can't get there by driving so either a walk from Bourne End station over the footbridge or from Cookham Moor, unless you rock up by boat (mooring available). You're rewarded with a welcoming sitting area next to the river, a children's playground (could do with some work) and a vast area of fields for kids to roam about safely (out of sight though) towards the little hills behind the fields. Stunning view of the river. It's kiddie and doggy paradise! Food is the usual pub grub but good portions and fair prices. The premises could be in a much better state but that would take a fair amount of investment and The Bounty is loved by all that frequent it as it is. The indoor area is quirky with funny signs, pictures and posters, a stuffed (toy) tiger, memorabilia and you have it. Personally I wouldn't go for the food specifically or to spend time indoors but on a pleasant day sitting by the river with a pint is just marvellous! Check opening hours to avoid disappointment, only open on weekends in winter, please verify for yourself. I believe food available round the clock. Also check out their "Bierfest" and "Jazz festival" and other events....
Read moreWe've been there twice. First time the food or drinks didn't turn up after an hour. We'd been chatting with friends outside so kind of lost track that it was taking so long. We went to ask and they said the computers had had a glitch and they'd lost the orders. All the young staff were standing around doing nothing, it wasn't busy and nobody thought to check with us. They hadn't even started making the food so we just collected a refund and went and got a curry from the Indian place over the river which was amazing.
Second time we came with our parents and called ahead to make sure the kitchen would be open. We were told absolutely and to come on down so said we'd be there in twenty minutes. Arrived on time and were told that nobody was ordering so they'd closed the kitchen early.
So we've never actually eaten there despite trying quite hard and it's definitely getting to a trick me twice shame on me stage at this point....
