We stopped off here to visit the House of Chilli and I had a small child desperate for the toilet. The Bus Stop Cafe was on the way so I took her in and asked if there was a toilet she could use in the area. Response was "only for customers". I was a bit shocked and expressed this - "are you kidding me? I have a small child who is desperate" - and was told "She might have Covid". If he'd asked me to check in on the app so she could use the toilet I would have happily done so. Any customer "could have Covid".
I would also have been happy to spend money and become a customer so she could use the toilet at this point, but the "gentleman" who spoke to us then saw fit to tell us there was a public toilet. Not only a) could he have led with this rather than being unhelpful when I had a squirming child trying her best not to wee but b) he was untruthful; the toilet in question was not a public toilet. It belonged in fact to the House of Chilli staff and was locked to the public. Thankfully, they were much kinder and allowed our daughter to go to the toilet without question - even had we spent nothing.
If we had been welcomed with more kindness and compassion we would have spent money at the cafe as a thank you. But my priority at that moment was to look after my daughter. I genuinely don't understand what kind of person refuses a child who is quite obviously desperate for the toilet. Kindness costs nothing but wouldhave...
Read moreThis is a fun cafe to visit offering a range of cheap and family friendly sandwich and cake options etc. The coffee is good and the staff are very friendly.
I'm very disappointed that they have decided to limit people able to use the bus top deck and indoor seating facilities to only people who live together when the government guidance for cafes and restaurants specifically states that upto two households can meet indoors at these type of venues and further that a household includes in its definition a support bubble.
I hope they do do well coming out of this pandemic as it is a lovely little cafe but I think its new rules are over complex, unenforceable and they discriminate against people who live alone. They are also likely to be very different to what other cafes are doing and I think they will come unstuck on this point quite quickly.
I won't be going back until they are more realistic at any rate.
But if you're a family who live together with young children you'll have a great time making use of the...
Read moreLovely little cafe, and a really unique experience. Situated in a old bus that is converted into a cafe. The bus itself may not be suitable for anyone with mobility issues as sitting is upstairs, but there are outdoor covered areas to sit also. Staff were really friendly and chatty. The eating area was clean and tidy - although there were some cobwebs on some of the windows. Overall a really unique experience. Food was also delicious and freshly...
