Really not great - tried to give it a go but quite a few poor things!
Table was dirty from previous customer, no problem but when staff member came to clean it, sprayed table once, didn’t even collect half the crumbs and left ketchup on table so we had to redo it.
30-40 minute wait for food - not even at full capacity at that time so can’t really have been a ‘busy’ excuse… not ideal with two kids in tow.
But the food was the biggest problem and the menu itself… so I ordered a jacket potato with prawns and the menu stated with salad and coleslaw. When it arrived my husband said he had to choose with one - it didn’t come with both?? Bit odd as looked plain without both and the jacket potato was pretty poor. The potato wasn’t soft, probably the wrong sort for a jacket, and prawns were hot (unusual for Marie Rose) and very rubbery.
I then noticed my husband had ham egg chips, the menu again said you could have peas or beans and salad or coleslaw. Again he didn’t have either of these on his plate nor was he offered. Maybe we were reading it wrong but that’s how it read to us?
It felt like we’d been short served.
We told the staff on the till as a bit of feedback who just replied saying ‘sorry about that’ with no explanation as to why it wasn’t offered nor offer of compensating us for a poor meal. Left it a bit awkward and a sour note. Good customer service makes all the difference. We hope you can review how your menu reads or ensure staff knows what’s to be mentioned on...
Read moreWhat a delightful find. We visited here on our trip to Oundle last week, the first in 20+ years. The Tavern is situated in a lovely position on the Market Place , so you can see the hustle and bustle going on outside. There is seating upstairs, downstairs and in a peaceful courtyard. It is a nice, light airy establishment. We were served by a lovely, friendly lady. The food was superb and very filling, especially my Ploughman's Lunch, which was the biggest I have seen and contained homemade coleslaw, which is always a plus. The lunch contained three types of cheese, slices of apple, pickle, and a huge pickled onion. I followed this with a chocolate sundae. Very good prices and the others in the party were extremely impressed and we can't wait to...
Read moreAnyone familiar with Oundle will know it’s coffee central with lots of competing offers, so it’s important to stand out.
Coffee Tavern is a great choice for several reasons, especially its two floor layout which means there is usually plenty of space.
They also offer online ordering to your seat, which is great for bigger orders where you might chop and change what you want as people choose.
There is outdoor seating across the road which is a lovely setting to watch the world go by (food and drink has to be served in takeaway boxes/cups though, for safety I think).
As the name suggests, coffee is good but there is loads more on offer especially a wide variety of cooked breakfasts, panini etc.
All supported by quick and...
