If ever there was a place that does exactly what it says on the tin, this is it. The great virtue of this almost religious specialisation is a highly enjoyable product that is rightfully revered locally. The bit of effort it takes to wander down the footpath to the shoreline (park at Steephill Cove and the Botanic Garden, pay and display, unless combined with visit to the garden), adds to the romantic charm. When we visited the sunshine meant there was a nice buzz around the place (there are two other outlets amplifying what's on offer here), and the coastal ambience is second to none. The rocks, fine stone, and sandy beaches make this a ready playground, while the the less playfully inclined can soak up the simple culinary delight while acculturing to the seaside. Back to the shed, there was a life affirming confidence in having a choice of two: crab (leek and herbs) or mackerel (spinach and dill) pie. Having tried both, they are as different as they are the same. Served nice and hot, freshly baked. Rich crispy and flaky pastry yields to a full flavoured filling. There is plenty of crab or mackerel, so you won't feel short changed. For my appetite, two makes for a good portion, while one is more of a bite or large tapas...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreLovely little business, very tasty food & friendly staff. Hard to find the delightful quirky setting that is Steep Hill Cove but it was worth being rerouted correctly by Waze after our outdated sat nav took us to a dead end š. Parked in a private carpark with an honesty box, walked up a lane, past the cricket pitch & down a steep wobbly path down to the beach. We planned to find The Crab Shed on a day at the island and were lucky they hadnāt run out, as it was late on a sunny Sunday afternoon before the August bank holiday. Got to sample the mackerel ciabatta & a crab pastie from their daily specials board. Very tasty snacks in what felt like a secret Cove, thankfully untouched by predictable modern franchises. Iām amazed by some prior reviewers saying āthey shouldnāt run outā or āthey should accommodate moreā. This & other local business along this Cove clearly make the most of what space &...
Read morePaying £7.5 for a crab panini with lettuce is far from very expensive for such a crab mayo sandwich. never mind the fancy names. it is crab meat and it is local, so should be much cheaper.the sandwich is small you think that they have normal size panini but you end up with small panini sandwich. The place is squeezed between random situated plywood buildings that feel like just after a tsunami as a temporary shelter, there are crab basket all around the area some of them abandoned and they are there just for show. We have tried the pasty for £4.5 it is again a failure for value for money, it is small that you cannot even share for the share community.the tabels are outdoor bar tables but in mini version that you cannot sit without banging your knees with your neighbour. so Yes if it was much cheaper No for this kind of...
