Primarily, the measure of any restaurant will always be 'what comes out of the kitchen on the plates'. In this respect, The Dining Room hit the highlights. The flavours were intense. The ingredients were clearly very fresh. The presentation was classy. All of our dishes, as well as the amuses bouches, were delightful and exciting to eat. I'm a big fan of Michelin-rated restaurants and have dined at many, over many years too. I would not be surprised to see this cooking gain a star. I have eaten at Michelin starred restaurants in the UK, France, Belgium and the US and this cooking compares well.
It pains me to say it, and sadly it's a personal comment, but leading the front of house team was the co-owner who didn't impress me. It's my opinion. Surely a top-class restaurant needs someone leading at the front who must be 'simpatica'. I didn't feel that. I have to take this in to account in my assessment of the restaurant. Read moreThe Dining Room has a stellar reputation and going by Google reviews, exceptional in every way. And I will continue to beat that drum. I had the absolute joy of dining here last night. Meticulous attention to detail wove through the evening, through the food and service and ambience, pulling all the elements together into a work of art. The visual beauty of the food did not set you up for a disappointing mouthful. Every flavour and component was there for a reason and played off each other purposefully. My highlights were the truffle cheesecake with balsamic, the smoked cheese custard with Beetroot, the perfectly-cooked-melt-in-your-mouth venison and the rum poached pineapple cheesecake. I tasted many more from people at various levels of willingness to share and can vouch for the rest of the menu too. The value for money is worth mentioning as I left absolutely satiated, happy and not lacking anything....
Read moreWhat a restaurant. From the warm and friendly welcome to the quality of the food and service there was nothing to fault. At all. Due to Covid restrictions we had to 'register' our visit, sanitise our hands and wear masks walking around the restaurant. All dealt with beautifully by the staff.
The restaurant is relatively small and had fewer tables than normal, again due to covid and social distancing. The room was very comfortable - quite plain but in a relaxing, pleasing way. Very comfortable chairs.
Service was first class - attentive without being on top of you all the time. The food was excellent. I won't go into it in detail as the menu will have, no doubt, changed by the time you read this but everything served to us was perfect.
Not cheap, cheap but stunning value-for-money. If you are in this part of the world try to fit in a visit to the Dining Room in...
