We have been visiting this peaceful hotel for a number of years and understand that it changed hands in January 2025. It has lost some of its magic compared to previous visits but I hope this will be temporary as builders and, I think, architects were in evidence during the stay. The hotel is a typical seaside white building of not much significance situated up a small hill. There are around 20 rooms all simply but well furnished, modern, and kept scrupulously clean. The most expensive rooms have amazing views over the estuary with its ever changing tides and sand. We were on the side of the building in a "garden view" room - actually a view of a 30 foot hedge about 20 feet away. The room and bed are comfortable although the bath/shower room is uninspiring especially at over £300/night. We slept well with the excellent air conditioning and the room is a pleasant place to rest during the day. The dining room, again with great views, is a little utilitarian but fun when busy. Good, but not great, food is served although the menu is not extensive. It is easy to spend £40 or more per person even for a simple and small dinner. Breakfasts were disappointing with little in the buffet but a cooked menu is available. The staff were friendly and chatty and sometimes very busy due to lack of numbers although this did not affect the service. They are extremely helpful. Outside there is a terrace for drinks and gardens. Both looked rather tired and in need of TLC or a revamp. There was a large French van used as a mobile bar parked on the terrace bizarrely called "Maurice"! I never saw anyone order at it during our stay. The swimming pool is quite dated now and rather shallow for swimming but again not unpleasant certainly on the loungers. There are some world class walks nearby and also a short ferry across to Padstein. Up the road is the Mariners restaurant which is certainly worth a visit (also part of the "Ainsworth Collection'). You will have to be careful of the large number of Chelsea Tractors around when you walk there on the narrow or non-existent pavement. Overall we will look forward to returning in the expectation that the food will be much improved (not difficult for the new owners), the outside terrace and gardens are rejuvenated and the same wonderful staff...
Read moreThis is our second stay at The St Endoc and we plan to return every year. We would like to thank Jasmine on Reception who was absolutely outstanding, she is extremely friendly, welcoming and nothing was too much trouble and helped us change rooms when I had a little issue with our other room. Zoe was also very pleasant. Most other staff were super friendly. Mike at breakfast is always welcoming and friendly. There are a couple of things that probably need improvement which is why I knocked a star off, I’d say the breakfast is very basic for this level of hotel, the cooked selection is fine but the buffet is very limited. Poached eggs were hard boiled a few times which is a pet hate. Also not being able to pick where you sit was annoying as we were told to sit at a certain table which we right next to another couple which was extremely close so to freely pick where you sit is something I’d like to be able to do in future. The biggest area of improvement needed is the lunchtime/afternoon service. Two separate days we had to go in to get served rather than someone coming out to us on the terrace. The most frustrating was Saturday when three other tables were getting attentive service, one family were not even staying at the hotel, whilst we did not once have anyone coming over to serve us (we were sat there for 3 hours) again we had to go inside to order, it was like we were invisible, again for the price point it’s rather disappointing so hopefully that changes next year. I didn’t really see the point in the van outside that served drinks as no one was ever in it serving which was odd. There are big changes coming for this hotel which look lovely I just hope that there will be enough staff and service level is at the right standard for this...
Read moreWe stayed at the St Enodoc Hotel in Rock for three nights. I was very relieved on arrival, now that my mobility is slightly limited, to find that I did not to have to climb those steep steps at the front of the hotel. Instead, we were able to park at the back door where there was a space to unload luggage and a very pleasant young lady from Reception appeared and kindly carried our bags up the short (and manageable for me) flight of stairs to our room.||The hotel has a modern luxury seaside vibe and our room was bright and airy and clean, The bathroom was a good size with plenty of surface area for our washbags and a generous selection of luxury toiletries was provided. In the bedroom the window sill was conveniently low enough for us to sit and look at the view whilst having our complementary coffee and biscuits after a day out exploring the area. Unfortunately there was only one chair so one of us had to sit on the bed. Even so the room was comfortable and I was pleased to see that the wardrobe contained some conventional wooden hangers, not those awkward anti-theft ones on security rings that you get in most hotels these days. And no, we didn’t nick any!||The Brasserie was a lovely space to dine, and so well designed that wherever your table is situated you still get a good view of the garden and scenery beyond. On the first evening we had the lemon sole with brown shrimps and Sauce Jacqueline - it was delicious; and my dessert of Vanilla Panna Cotta with strawberries and elderflower was divine. Service was very friendly and knowledgable.||All in all a lovely mini break. We were...
