It’s been a bad week at Dockle Farmhouse. We have come 3 times this week and wont be returning after today. Each time we hoped to have a nice time and each time we were extremely disappointed with the service and the food. On the first day we tried to order from the new menu. I wanted the mushroom risotto but they didn’t have it. Not that it was sold out or anything, they just didn’t sell it. Why put something on the menu and then not sell it? It’s beyond me. I then asked for the teriyaki noodles, which were displayed on a sign on the counter. Again, they didn’t have it. Apart from not actually selling the food they displayed, I was served by a member of staff who was really rude about it, like I was wasting her time. Fair enough, I ordered a jacket potato with beef chilli. Sounds like it’d be the easiest dish to make. Apparently not. The jacket came topped with a spoon full of chilli and no sour cream. I was basically just eating a potato with a few beans. The next time we came was for lunch the following day. Maybe a new set of staff or cooks would make this time better. Nope, I was wrong. I ordered the fried buttermilk chicken burger with a salad instead of chips. Next to us were a couple of women who ordered about 10 minutes after me and they received their food sooner than I did. 25 minutes after ordering I went up to the till to ask if they knew when my food would arrive and it turns out the ticket just got thrown away. 2 minutes later I had my food. Made me question, though, how fresh it was. And then we went today. Asked again for the risotto and again we were told they didn’t have it. Never mind. I ordered the skinny chicken burger instead. It came with a side salad and just like every other side salad on their menu I expected it to come with salad dressing. It didn’t. When I asked for some I was told they don’t usually do it and that I’d have to pay for it but they’ll do it this time, but just this once. Same was said to my boyfriend who ordered a jacket potato with TWO lots of beef chilli and sour cream. He asked the girl behind the bar if it’s possible to make a note on the system for the chefs to see that he would like TWO lots of sour cream, since they’ve forgotten it before. It only came with one pot and when he went to the same girl again to ask for the other one he was given some weird excuse that it’s one pot per jacket potato and that the chefs said that they’ll only do it this once..... Honestly, I don’t quite get it. Maybe they’ve had a new set of staff members and/or cooks but it’s still been really disappointing, when we’ve been so many times before and we’ve just really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. Sad to say it’s just not a place we’d like to...
Read moreService was excellent but cutlery was dirty. Overall I gave this pub a 4. If the staff hadn't been so quick and friendly I would have given it a 3. The pub is massive. My table number was 132... The waiting time according to the app was 4 minutes for drinks and 6 minutes for food. My drink arrived within 1 minute and food within 4. The fastest service I've had in Wetherspoons so far. Unfortunately the knife and fork were not clean. The knife was disgusting (see photo). I had the small breakfast which I have had in several other Spoons and it was about average if a little cold. The fried egg was dippy, which I like but the white was a little bit undercooked on top. This is excusable in a pub setting because it's hard to get a fried egg dippy and the white spot on. Overall the food was acceptable for the price, although the small breakfast in this pub was £3.99 whereas the same breakfast in the Sir Daniel Arms in Swindon town centre was only £2.25. The Hot chocolate was fine (unlimited refills) at £1.56 but more expensive than the same item in the Silk Mercer (a Spoons in Devizes, Wiltshire) where it was only £1.04 Not the best Wetherspoons I've been in but possibly the largest. Not the cheapest either. Would I rush back there? No. The other 2 Wetherspoons in Swindon are both better in my opinion,...
Read moreI visited dockle with my 12 year old daughter yesterday. We run in quick for some scampi and chips after visiting elderly members of family.
The ordering system has been updated and works well on the phone app. This means we just order from the table, the food was fresh and came quick, within 10 mins of ordering. I believe you are still able to order from the bar too and they still use cash for the customers continued convenience.
The tables and chairs were basic and well used but the restaurant was clean and resembled any other hungry horse I've ever been in cheap, cheerful and value for money with decent sized food portions.
The part we were sat in was segmented and actually felt quite private away from the bar and would be a good area to eat for people with sensory issues, we had acsess to a full sized plug socket at the table which was handy for charging my phone battery or if a child had a tablet ect.
I would come back to the dockle, although there is little entertainment for the children apart from of a painted area, the outside is pleasant with some small trees. It looks a nice place to drink on a sunny evening.... Apart from...
