Really disappointing experience!

EDITED TO RESPOND TO OWNER Regardless of a contribution from the government, the quality of food and quality of service should be of an acceptable standard (you will still receive 100% of the bill)I agree there is a worldwide pandemic, however, you have accepted government guidance and agreed to open on these terms, if you are unable to operate efficiently whilst complying then you should remain closed. If you have no control over orders being placed but are willing to accept both the order and payment, there is clearly something wrong with your system. We ate out every night last week, not just on the nights that the government had asked us to in order to ‘help out’ and we did not experience what we experienced at your establishment. The sarcasm and attitude to my original balanced review says an awful lot! For clarity, there were 8 of us not 10. There are clearly a smaller number of tables, but for over an hour no food came out of the kitchen and no explanation was given for such a long delay. We sat inside and counted 6 other tables also complaining of the length of weight. We arrived for 8pm and did not get served until after 9.30. original post Covid measures seem really good and ordering through a dedicated app was good. However, drinks took 30 minutes to arrive, with food taking a ridiculous 1.5 hours!! Every table where complaining about the wait for food, many with young children . There was no explanation for the delay and truth be told the food was definitely NOT worth the wait. The mushroom stroganoff with a bread roll had no bread roll although slices of bread where brought when requested. The burgers were both very pink on the inside along with the centre of the sausages in the sausage and mash, and the lamb shank tastes like lamb in bistro gravy! The bar staff were working really hard and trying their best but badly let down by the kitchen. They appear to be operating a reduced menu at the moment so cannot understand why there would be the delay. Sadly, you order through the app and pay upfront so regardless of the meal you have already paid when it arrives. Do yourself a favour and avoid! There are lots of great pubs and restaurants in Newquay and Cornwall, sadly...

**Edited to reply to Owner In response to your previous reply to my review about our experience. You obviously dont like it when someone gives you a lower than average review. We eat in quite a lot of places & take photos to leave a review whether it is good or bad. You said it took us nearly 10 mins to start eating our meals as you watched us on CCTV, but I believe that is incorrect. It is also irrelevant as even though we sent our main meals back for being lukewarm, we sat eating the dirty fries which came at the same time as were piping hot. They must have also been sitting for the 10mins at the table that you say they were. Please explain how they were piping hot, but the meat on the main meals weren't! We had no issues with the staff or the service. We were polite at courteous as we always are. It was just unfortunate that our experience with the food served to us we felt was below an acceptable standard temperature wise.

We've been coming here on holiday for the last 3 years & always fancied having food here so this time we ordered food at 5pm, the order was processed quickly & food arrived in a reasonable timescale. We started to tuck in & soon we both discovered that the meat on both of our meals were lukewarm, just as the waitress came to ask if everything was OK with our meals. We sent both our meals back. New meals arrived about 5-10mins later. The meat was warmer (not steaming hot). My husbands meat was tough & my BBQ Ribs were not the best quality & didn't taste the best, put it this way, the ribs that you can buy in a box in any of the main supermarkets tastes so much better & juicy. Did we order dessert.... not a chance! We will never eat here again. Lovely pub but we don't rate the food. Plus side, the dog enjoyed his dog bowl & half my BBQ Ribs, no...

Last years 2023. Great atmosphere and friendly customers plus dogs are welcome and given free biscuits. An excellent choice of beers and spirits with a good menu!!!! We can't wait to come back!!!

Today, unfortunately.

We have been coming here for several years while on holiday because they allow dogs, and the service and beer are always great. Today, we thought we would try the food. The mixed grill (medium rare steak) and the full rack of ribs with the dirty fries looked good. The egg was a little overcooked but still jammy in the middle. The problem came when we started eating it as the food was lukewarm. A server came over doing a service check, and when we told her it was lukewarm, she apologized and took it away.

Now, in my mind, and when I was in the industry, if someone sends food back because it is cold, you DON'T put the same food back on the grill to heat it up for two reasons! Firstly, cross contamination as the chef doesn't know what contact the customer has had with the food, such as licking the knife in between cutting the meat. Secondly, the lovely medium rare steak, etc, is now like shoe leather as it is way overcooked.

A lovely pub spoilt by very poor food, such a shame!!!

Ps. The dog food was gobbled up in seconds...
