Friendly pleasant staff, Served by Megs and Steph. Service with a smile and amazing food, the sweet potato fries and the onion rings are just cooked to perfection... A light crispy batter and juicy onions, I can't remember the last time I tasted onion rings that good. The Fox and Hounds Burger was good although the moisture deteriated the base of the bap pretty quickly. I had the spiced pear crumble with custard and as it was cooked as an individual portion it held it's layers and juices in the dish with a cracking crisp topping! No space for the custard until you eat a few mouthfuls though. So great quality tasty food served with a beautiful smile, not rushed in or out so we could actually enjoy our time not being herded like cattle that happens in so many other places.

A cute little pub that I was extremely surprised to find that had so many gluten free options, I was excited. Their Sunday roasts are even gluten free which I havent seen before so I was hoping to have some. Unfortunately due to my recent SIBO diagnosis and being put on a low fodmap diet. I am gluten free, dairy free and no garlic and no onions which is obviously lot harder to accommodate for so I understand but I was jealous of my husband having the Sunday roast! I had a gluten free fish and chips which was really nice! Considering how much I struggled to find places I was surprised to find a place opposite our hotel when we couldn't even get a taxi to come to us!

I arranged to meet family & friends here to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. I'd checked out several places that would offer easy access from the motorway for people coming from both north & south, had great reviews for food and service, and an overall attractive appearance. The Fox & Hounds ticked every box and more. Without realising at the time of booking, we arrived for 1 p.m. on Easter Sunday. Our food orders had been requested a week before at the latest, which saved time when we were seated, especially as a couple of people were late. I'd also had a late addition to our party just as I'd sent over our orders via email and although they were fully booked, the staff were good enough to add a place to the end of the table. The communication and accommodation of the staff was excellent. Upon arrival, we were made to feel very welcome with smiles and friendly chat. Despite the place being completely packed, none of our party of 11 could fault the food or service. The ambience was just right; no having to shout at each other to be heard. Everyone commented on how delicious their food was, from the kids fish & chips to pork loin, burgers, lamb and more. A variety of desserts were also enjoyed by all. The level of service was top notch, which was impressive considering how busy they were. As some of us were smokers, we spent time outside, which was beautifully presented with lots of tables and seating. The Fox & Hounds is a dog friendly pub, it's worth noting. I always rate pubs and restaurants by their toilets! In this case, they were nicely decorated and well kept, with hand wash and lotion, and good mirrors. There was a good selection of lagers and ales available at the bar, as well as wine by the glass or bottle and plenty of none alcoholic drinks. We also had jugs of water with our meals. We would all highly recommend...

What a Gem! Visited 4 hours ago. We were staying in the hotel down the road (Donnington Valley) just been out for a walk l, and needed somewhere decent and cosy at lunch time for a bite to eat and drink. The Beeer was fantastic, I had Chubbs Session Bitter (3.4%) - great tasting and you'd think it was stronger. To eat, I had a large baked camembert with very thinly sliced, salted, garlic ciabatta - I honestly lost count of the times I said "lovely".

My wife had a toasted sausage sandwich, which came with some really nice chips, and a J2O.

The place was incredibly popular for a Thursday lunch time, nearly every table had been booked, and we were lucky to be able to sit in the bar by the fire.

The two young ladies serving were friendly, welcoming, attentive, charming and very professional.

The pub had a sign at the bar that said that they preferred Cash payment, due to the excessive charges being levied by card companies and banks. This was just fine by me, as I want to keep cash alive as much as anyone else, and not give the banks and card companies any more money than they deserve.

Even the non-intrusive background music was superb.

The Fox and Hounds is a very popular pub, and with great food, service, decor and atmosphere, not to mention the superb real ales, you can see why.

Your only disappointment might be if you fail to...

Staying at the hotel down the road, thought we'd stop by and try out an early evening meal on the way back from a day out. I ordered the burger which was excellent, the customer service was good and the establishment seemed very cosy. So why the 3 star rating? Well, when ordering the burger I asked for the bacon to be held but instead have another choice of side like onion rings, which seemed like a reasonable request but the lady refused this for some reason and I did not pursue the reason why. Anyway, I ordered the burger and about halfway through I noticed a slither of bacon under some chips. It was not on the burger so I didn't really care, but had it been a food allergy product that someone asked to be removed and still ended up on their plate it could have been more serious. Maybe I should have raised this concern but it hardly seemed worth it at the time, but in future I will. So, apart from being refused a swap of toppings and a food product I did not ask for ending up on my plate anyway, the lady at the bar was friendly and the other staff members, a young lad and a lady seemed very nice...
