I was one of a group of 9 friends who stayed at the George and Dragon in Dent in September 2024 on a cycling holiday up the Pennines. This was the worst accommodation we had on the holiday, and the most expensive.|The biggest issue was the lack of hot water for showers. Even when there was hot water, it could suddenly go cold half way through the shower. The system just could not cope with several people wanting showers. This was not acceptable. The staff just said the system was on boost and there was nothing else they could do to help. We complained several times to little effect.|The other issues we had were 1) the cold tap in the bathroom was very loose, impossible to turn off with one hand and difficult to turn off with two. 2) The hairdryer was damaged - it did provide some hot air but the heat adjustment switch did not work. This is a safety issue. 3) Our room needed totally redecorating, and 4) one bedside table did not work.|There is a lack of accommodation in Dent and it is in a lovely spot, but that is no excuse for overcharging for poor accommodation. We were told that the establishment had just been taken over by new management and they were sorting things out, but they should warn guests of the shortcomings in advance and price it accordingly.|On the up site, we did have a decent meal in the restaurant, with...
Read moreWhat an absolute shame that this potentially great spot was just a massive disappointment. The only things worthy of mention in a positive way are the staff especially Ellie who were really welcoming and helpful and a great location.
The rest was just a massive disappointment. It needs refurbishing. It needs actually also just a good clean everywhere. From the bedrooms and bathroom to the teapots used at breakfasts and public areas. Really grubby and nothing that a bit of great housekeeping wouldn't resolve.
The beds were more like a trampoline with rock like pillows. There wasn't enough hot water on arrival late afternoon. It ran hot for about 3 - 4 minutes an then was tepid. I could go on but suffice to say that staff make a huge difference to a place and basically that was the only asset that this place had.
Food was, at best, mediocre although huge portions served.
Apparently it's the only place that offers food in Dent in the evening so has huge potential. Just a shame that it's a...
Read moreWe would give the pub itself a 4 star review if we were just reviewing the bar and bar staff ( who were excellent ). I've scored it an overall 2 as the 'welcome' and service from the landlady could only be described , at best , as cold. We had a family meal in the restaurant and were escorted by the landlady to our table (after waiting around 5 minutes to be acknowkledged ) with a cursory 'it's there'. Zero warmth , no smile , not even a 'hello' , despite being with our children their 83 yr old grandparents. The waiting on staff were very attentive and pleasant. After the meal we paid our £200 plus bill and were the last to leave , passing the landlady who stood by the bar , at the exit , with her back to us. No acknowledgement , no goodbye , no thank you...and we were the last customers to leave the retaurant for the day...having spent over £200. To say we were disappointed would be an...
