Updated from visit 3/11/19
Visited for Sunday roast after hearing that they had a new chef with a famous award winning background :-). Was very excited to think of The George Payne returning your its previous greatness.
I’m guessing they don’t work Sundays as the food was ok, but not good. Questionable cuts of meat that make you wonder if they come pre cut or if they have some of the most perfect carving going on. Limited greens on the plate, mix of mashed veg and cook parsnips. Yorkshire puds were good though! (£12-£17 for roast)
Tried puddings and the difference between a £4 two scoop bowl of ice cream and the £7 Unicorn Surprise Sunday was a squirt of cream and two wafers.
Back on the onto the hope it improves list - might return in a few months but not a place to go for a roast for me
Original post: Used to be one of the best in the area, recently food quality has slipped as has customer care. Still a nice venue and great huts out in the garden which are great for small groups of friends...
Read moreHave been before and enjoyed the roast and general atmosphere. Today their garden 2 was, unbeknownst to us, laden with dog faeces which our toddler aged kids then trod in and generally got covered in while playing. Not only was this disgusting and appalling but when I spoke to the manager she failed to bring any blue roll out for at least 20 minutes and said to me “we ask that kids sit down”. Sorry but it’s a beer garden? And do you not ask that people clean up after their dogs?? That’s a £40 pair of shoes ruined and we most certainly will not be returning. The disgusting and toxic dog poo was bad enough but the way that they reacting was beyond reprehensible. No apology and no solution- didn’t even come out to clear it up and prevent it happening to anyone else. What was supposed to be a lovely Sunday dinner turned out to ruin our entire day and my...
Read moreMy friends kept asking me 'How is it?'. I was eating slowly savouring every mouth full. 'Ten of ten' I'd say with a thumbs up. I was greatly enjoying my 'Hot & spicy burger, chips & salad' - recommended!
It seemed to me that the chef had made a special effort with my food. That kind of quality does not turn itself out by accident.
We were looked after well by Frank & friendly, hard working Vicky in their relaxing surroundings. I particularly liked how the music got quieter in the evening so different groups of friends could stay and chat - not be driven away by the noise.
I noted that the pub seemed particularly family friendly during the daytime.
My first time there (although my friends were returning). I will...
