It was last Wednesday I believe me and a few friends came to pick up another friend. when we got there, I had to use the toilet so my friend went to see if they could find my other friend. After I return to the bar while my friend was still looking, the guy on the bar (I believe he actually said he was the asstiant manager!) told me that my friends didnt want to see me and I had to leave. I told him I didn't understand this and could I talk with one of my friends which he refused so I stood out side and waiting while he threatened to call security. Moments later my friend came out of the pub and we left. In the confusion, I left my phone in the pub so returned last night to be told I've been barred and the phone I was told was there was not. Then as i left he came and stared at me while I got in the car. To be honest I used to really like this pub great food and atmosphere, but I think this guy is well, a bit over the top or confused, or a bit of a creep that doesn't really deal well with people. it would be a shame to see such a nice pub suffer and business to suffer because of one small minded person. not one to write a review but this really...

We recently reserved a great space inside the pub for a joint birthday party and the guys running the place (Natasha and Ollie) were brilliant!! The whole booking process was easy, the communication with regards to a few items that needed planning was great and the buffet they provided really was excellent. In fact there were loads of compliments about the food by our guests!!

Generally speaking, they have a really nice selection beers which are constantly changing and I've also had some food from the regular menu recently which was really good. The moules mariniere are a highlight!! Will definitely be my regular when I fancy a nice beer and some great food. The playlist is always pretty good too which makes for a nice vibe.

So to sum it up, it's a great local pub with nice beers, great food, nice bar staff and also a great place to have a celebration when...

The Ancient Mariner is one of the last good pubs in Brighton & Hove that have a good vibe to it. This is because of the staff's hard work to drive the pub in the right direction, Jim the manager is really good at his job and will help you as the customer with any problems you may have. His bar team are a fantastic team that will always deliver a good customer service standard, but also in busy times make sure you are not waiting for a long period of time at the bar. The food is excellent and is run by a good team in the kitchen because the food is always represented on the plate well and tastes fantastic. If you are looking for a nice meal throughout the week or looking for a couple of drinks on the Friday this needs to be a place you should visit and of course you can not forget about their roast dinners on a Sunday; they are up there with my personal top 3...

Went for Sunday Roast and had mixed feelings. Great choice of drinks, very attentive staff but we ordered food and it came out very late and waited at least 50 mins. I ordered the Beef and my partner ordered the Chicken which were both delicious. The vegetables were either over or under cooked and the potatoes weren't crispy and were still hard in the middle. They had run out of stuffing for the chicken and didn't mention this, but did compensate us by getting my partner a free drink (mulled cider). This tasted like it had been brewing since last year as it was so strong! Couldn't finish the drink but the thought was there. Overall, lovely little pub but service and food could be better.

This is a really terrific neighbourhood pub, with lovely staff and a welcoming interior. Plenty of outdoor seating for sunny evenings, too ☀️ I’ve been here occasionally just for a pint (they have a really good selection of beer!) but most recently for a Sunday Roast. The food was fantastic - the bacon wrapped stuffing that came with the chicken was sooo tasty, and the staff gladly brought out extra gravy to help us tackle the enormous yorkshire puddings! Loved the generous wedge of hispi cabbage, too. The Ancient Mariner hosts many activities throughout the week, from sea shanty evenings, to pints ‘n’ pottery, to live jazz. Looking forward to checking them out in the near future! ✨

Visited today after wanting to try the new menu for a while and living close in poets corner. How lucky we are to have a place like this on our doorstep! The staff are all so friendly and helpful, the atmosphere and decor is cosy and the food was DELICIOUS and so reasonably priced for the quality. 100% would recommend and will be coming back! Well done guys :)
