Stayed for 3 nights. Initial impressions were good but sadly that soon went downhill.
The food in the restaurant is very nice. We had to ask 3 times for our room to be tidied/restocked. When it was they removed 2 plastic wine glasses we had bought from a picnic set. I mentioedn it to the staff who said they would look for them and get back to us. They didn't. Upon checkout I had to ask again, and was then told that they had lost them. When pushed they offered a £5 refund off of the bill. I pushed on that and we managed to get £10 off. Sadly though the glasses were £15 so we still lost out. And how can you lose 2 plastic wine glasses?!?! Their apparent lack of ownership or willingness to at least be upfront and apologetic about this left a sour taste in our mouths. On our last evening we found out that the restaurant was closed for a private party. We were there for an extended weekend but no-one thought to let us know! To be fair they did then cook us meals and deliver them to our room. Had we left it any latyer to eat and I wonder whether we would have managed that. Be warned if you have a front facing room (we had the "Avon" room). The square can be a bit noisy, and the church clock opposite chimes loudly on the hour every hour through the night.
All in all it had great first impressions, and if you're staying for one night you probably wont notice the cracks. Stay any longer though and...
Read moreThe Greyhound inn is primarily a high standard restaurant with rooms located opposite the small market square in the centre of Wilton. We stayed here overnight in their 'Saddle room' which is located in the rear terrace. It is decorated to a very good standard and is spotlessly clean. The king size bed was very comfortable. It also had a good tv on the wall along with a table and two chairs, a dressing table, bedside tables, wardrobe and floor standing fan. There was a very well stocked Tea/Coffee making area with a fridge too. The shower room was a very good standard and toiletries were supplied. Again all was spotless. Outside our room there was a table and chairs for us on the terrace. We booked a meal for 6pm in the restaurant and given how busy it was, it was essential that you book in advance. The meal for my wife and I was the best we had for years. There is a very wide choice on the menu including vegetarian and vegan. The Chef here has style and panache. Probably our lasting memory is how nice and helpful all the staff were. All were happy, friendly, well trained, attentive and efficient. Prices were reasonable for this great standard of food. We thoroughly recommend the Greyhound Inn as a lovely place to stay, room rates are very reasonable for this...
Read moreArrived at the Greyhound Inn after a long drive in the pouring rain, with the intention of using it as a stopover on the way down to Dorset.||I arrived and was greeted at the bar (the inn is primarily a restaurant) and was shown by a lovely friendly staff member to my room which was immaculate and sooooo warm and cosy! It looked newly decorated. The television had a good choice of channels, and coffee/teas were provided. The only thing I would say is that there were no hooks anywhere to hang anything - there was a wardrobe but I didn't want to hang my coat in there as it was wet. There were also no hooks in the bathroom to hang your dressing gown on when taking a shower. However the bed itself was very comfortable and I had a really good nights sleep.||I ate at the restaurant that evening, and the food was lovely and the staff very attentive. The breakfast in the morning was also absolutely superb and again the staff were very attentive, there was a selection of cereals etc followed by a cooked breakfast (choice of eggs benedict, full English etc - I had the eggs benedict and it was delicious).||Overall I had a lovely stay and would highly recommend if you are in the area. I would definitely...
