I am allergic to onions and as i travel for work I frequent weatherspoons because I know I can eat safely. I went to tonight with my family. I ordered an ultimate burger meal with no onion, as I do frequently. It usually comes with no onion rings and no burger sauce. When my meal arrived tonight it had onion rings and burger sauce. I asked the waiter if the sauce definitely had no onions as it usually does and she said, no its just a type of mayo. I wanted to triple check (the chef- the waiter - another waiter) so I asked another member of staff who took me to the allergen board and confirmed that the mayo does in fact contain onion. So I was given 2 types of onion on a meal that I requested without onion. I was then advised by a member of staff that there was no onion in the burger sauce. I was not offered a replacement, i just had to swap a burger and bun with my husband so I didn't eat any onion. I spoke to the manager and explained what had happened. He blamed me for not reading the allergen board. I told him I had asked for no onion in my meal because I know there were removable onion components in what I ordered. He was unapologetic and clearly held me responsible despite the fact that i had asked specifically for no onions. His behaviour was disgusting. I am actually appalled at what happened, if I had not checked the burger contents and just bitten in to the burger, or I had believed the waiter I would have had a potentially dangerous allergic reaction. The staff in this pub need to be educated in customer service and telling the truth even if that means responding to a question with I don't know. Giving people food containing allergens when they specifically ask for food without it is a serious matter and should be treated as such. I won't be returning to this restaurant but will still use other...
Read moreWhat an absolutely abysmal place, we have just been to this Witherspoon's to enjoy a quiet meal with my elderly father and my family. We arrived just before 7:30 and found a seating area, but with having two children it took a little bit of time to find what they wanted to eat. I ordered using the application, which was around 7:40. However five minutes later someone approached and proceeded to tell me that they were refunding my money due to the fact that by the time the food would be ready it would be after 8pm... The 'duty' manager thought that I was being condescending because I was a bit pissed off and I was looking for the landlord not just the duty manager, she was a very stroppy little woman, whose sincere apology wasn't very sincere at all!
We checked beforehand to see what the children's policy was, and it's plainly stated that children were allowed up to 9 PM, not 8 PM. We won't be back and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone with children.
We however phoned up the Witherspoon's in Norton, The Highland Laddie and asked if we were okay bringing our children with us, NOT A PROBLEM AT ALL! And we enjoyed a delicious meal with very considerate staff who were exceptionally pleasant and very helpful, the total opposite of the...
Read moreWent after the Billingham Festival, it was busy when we entered, but only a couple of people at the bar. Found a table easy and sat, was hoping to have quite a few drinks and food. Ordered on the app, the food came out (pizza was wrong but it was a bit busy and staff looked stressed) I ordered an orange and water pint, this took 35 minutes to arrive, ordered 2 shots which also took another 30 mins, they were curdled and not nice. In the meantime I ordered 2 cocktails and waited. I asked the lady delivering the drinks and got a "we have 19 orders!", oakies, finished the food, waited more. I was without a drink for 35 minutes and went to the bar to ask for it, seemed like an issue with the system but it was not a good experience. Did get my drinks eventually, drank and left. Not a great impression but staff were busy and the bar was busy. Maybe we'll try again on...
