So the FoH service is amazing those people where killing it, topping up drinks and keeping on top off all the tables, so I really want to start off with a high five to them, it's not a easy role to do and maintain control of everything in a section to high degree so well done to them.
Atmosphere wise, (would love to see the views but that's a day thing and not something they can control during nights) but my issue came from the choice of poor choice of music; playing top 40 playlist in a venue with this decadence is crazy, someone needs to go for some thing more along the lines of James Jackson Jazz Trio, Flofilz or More then Jazz. Simple effective yet supports the class of the venue more then anything else, with fitting in with the aesthetics of the interior (which are stunning).
Food wise it's ok, but I wouldn't expect to pay large value for OK food, I wouldn't say the food itself is terrible but has no heart or soul, no undivided attention to each dish dont get me wrong Chef life is never easy but the food itself was missing as some would say the small parts to really enhance the dishes, something like adding a hickory dry smoke to the fish to add a deep depth of flavour, or using things like Sodium Alginate, Soy Lecithin and Calcium Lactate to really push that dining experience up ten fold.
I know adding extra steps in a kitchen isn't easy to say the least especially when it comes to food, as knowing how people will place orders is something that hard to acknowledge, when the fear of wastage in a kitchen is high, but rather then waste you could infact create dishes, from fermentation in the kitchen, look into the Noma Guide to fermentation to save on wastage and bring value to waste, everyone love the Whole ESG especially when it comes to a dinning experience.
Seems like I may have been to overly critical on the venue and I will agree I have, but I've only heard great things which puts the venue into a certain box for me, so its becomes easier to critic tiny miniscule issues. If your not massively into the heart and soul of food, but there is so much more then can be seen at smaller dining venues that really want to push...
Read moreWe phoned the jetty last minute and was able to get a table for 2 at noon. Arriving, we were welcomed by no other than Alex Aitken himself - what a great start to the experience that followed. Charles Williamson, restaurant manager and all round super guy - made us feel so very welcome, taking time out to chat with us and feel totally at home. We were presented with the most delicious "jetty bites" (unfortunately no photo of them as they were consumed in seconds!!). Next came an "amuse bouche" of mushroom soup along with fresh baked sourdough bread - delicious!!😋😋😋. We placed our order - my partner chose the Alex Aitken creamy cheesy baked souffle, whilst I opted out of the starter - the team member (I hate using waiter or C-de-R), suggested maybe a couple of prawns so I didn't feel excluded - what a great idea (again no photos when they arrived, as I was enjoying the ambience and not thinking 😏 DOH!). The souffle and prawns soon disappeared, and it was very much appreciated and noted that the mains didn't follow seconds after - allowing my partner to let the souffle ( and for us both, the jetty bites and soup) to settle. I chose the calves liver with citrus (I did think - Is the citrus going to overwhelm the soft taste of the liver? 🤔), and my partner choosing from the locally sourced menu, went for the chicken breast. After being presented and served so professionally, this time I remembered photos (see attached). The liver melted in the mouth - what was I even thinking that the citrus sauce would overwhelm the taste? This is Alex Aitken!!! - (idiot that I am!). The sauce was light and complimented the liver perfect ( So very sorry Alex for being a numpte 😕). My partner's chicken beautifully tender and juicy, he agreed this was an undeniably superb luncheon, complimented with outstanding service. Thank you Charles for making our visit so memorable, and to your team for continuing to make it so. To Alex, Craig, not forgetting the lovely Marcin and the whole kitchen brigade, lunch today was everything and more!!! Reviewers reading this, will possibly think I'm a little OTT - go experience for yourself and...
Read moreHad been here a few years ago and had a good experience, hence this visit on my son’s birthday, booked table for 7:45. We were running 10 mins late so out of consideration rang them to apologise that we were running late. We were told in no uncertain terms that if we did not get there by 8pm they reserved the right to give the table away. We said we were on our way, and they just reiterated that there was no guarantee our table would be available. I really wish we had turned round at this point. Tip no. 1 – don’t be late and don’t expect thanks for calling! The restaurant has two distinct areas; the main area and a wide corridor leading to the kitchens and the toilets. Unfortunately our table was at the end of the corridor, next to the kitchen and toilet door – not the best location to enjoy a meal! - Tip no. 2 - ask to be seated in the main eating area and definitely not next to the loos! Like most people, we like to talk over a glass of wine and a good meal. This was made really difficult by both the volume of the music but worst of all by the most inappropriate choice of play list, tinny pop songs. We tolerated it for about 30 mins (us Brits don’t like to complain!) in the faint hope that the music would change. Alas, it never did, so I politely asked if it could either be turned down or at least changed for something more appropriate. No such luck. The request fell on deaf ‘managers’ ears. Tip no 3 – not sure what to say here, as you might like intrusive music whilst dinning! The waiting staff were polite and delightful, and we were asked if everything was OK. Again we reiterated that the whole evening was being spoilt by the overbearing, awful music, and eventually it was reduced a notch! However, by this time we had had enough and just wanted out and skipped dessert and coffee. We duly paid the £350 bill and left to the spice girls singing ‘do you want to be my lover’! I know one thing for sure, I never want to return! On reflection, the initial phone dealing was so rude, we wish we had tuned round at that point – it was a bad omen! Tip No 4 –...
