The Keepers Lodge — Restaurant in England

We were a little bit sceptical when we first arrived as didn't expect it to be in the middle of a shopping area & when we entered the lounge, it was quite busy & there was a lot of noise from the bar. However, we were pleasantly surprised. We were able to get a table straight away & the barman offered us a couple of different options of where to sit & made sure the table was freshly wiped down. I ordered & paid for food at the bar & the barmaid was really chatty & friendly, as was the chef who happened to pop out. We had a veggie pie, a mixed grill & a mega mixed grill plus sauces & 3 drinks for £50 which was excellent value. The meals were really tasty, the meat was perfectly cooked & portions were a good size. Unfortunately we were all too full...

Where to start. The mix grill was average. Nothing much to say about that. The ultimate veggie burger was burnt, lots of unseasoned tomato sauce, burger bread was hard, hardly no taste to the burger, deep fried so you taste oil, chucked with cheese, no tasty cheese, cheap no depth. The atmosphere was dull, service behind the bar was slow even when food section had hardly no one in, which probably was a sign. The waitress asked us if we were enjoying our food when I said no, she just smiled and walked away and said Nothing!!, probably with embarrassment. Send in Gordon Ramsey to sort out the poor standards. Not worth the money or given reimbursement or discount ..Never ever will we...

The good: Good atmosphere, good staff

The bad: The food. Really bad, reheated dry steaks... Absolutely rubber the rump steak, i tell ya. The mixed grill platter is primarily chips and peas, small dry pieces of steak and chicken. All the food is frozen food, you can tell, sausages, onion rings, everything was frozen and reheated. The steaks were pre cooked and microwave heated.

The beers are fine.. a tad bit on the expensive side.. £15 for 3 beers 1 cider...

Will recommend you avoid the food... Good for just drinks and hanging out.

May revisit, only because its close to home and for drinks... No food again...

Edit: the first stinky bathroom i have visited in the last one...
