We went to the Maltings this afternoon Sunday 2nd Feb. 4 adults and 2 children plus dog. It's a very dog friendly place with free dog treats and a dog menu. We had booked a table for 3:30 but in the event we arrived at 3:15 but were seated immediately. We did use a GROUPON deal for 4 steaks with a glass of wine each. I wanted fish and chips, but they would not allow the substitution, that's OK and I ordered fish and chips anyway. We also ordered a childs roast dinner and several sides and starters. We waited half an hour for the starters and kids meal. The food was great with huge portions, the kids loved it. But we had to wait for our mains. We had a round of drinks, good quality beers and wines, we were served a white wine instead of the ordered Rose' but this they swapped with alacrity when it was pointed out. Eventually a member of staff came over at 16:40 to 'remind' us that the table was required at 17:30. We pointed out that we hadn't had our mains yet and 15 minutes later they arrived. The steaks were cooked as requested and were very good, juicy and tender, the chunky chips were not chips but fondant potato's, but not the worse for that, very tender and tasty. The Fish and Chips were a disappointment the fish fillet was sliced very thinly, the batter very hard and dark. Obviously not freshly cooked and probably fried at least twice, and the chips again not chips but more fondants. We were then subjected to an orchestrated 'bums rush' of collected plates and glasses and cleaning of the table. Our 'replacements' ushered into our former seats even before we left the room. I felt we were not given the establishments full and fair attention due to the fact we used GROUPON. Even though with the extra kids meals, sides and drinks, we spent over £160 more than 3 times the coupons value. I also noted on leaving, seeing other guests fish to be far thicker and freshly cooked, served with chips and not fondant potatoes. I could be wrong on my assumption regarding the use of a coupon and we may have been just unlucky on the day. I hope if you visit, you...

30TH APRIL 2025 Wandering Wednesday’ this week took both Hubby Neil and I to a new place….. ‘The Maltings’ which is just a couple of miles down the road….. I think we have been put off going, only because when it was ‘The Bewsey Farm’ many, many years ago, you’d walk in and your feet would stick to the floor!….. it’s definitely not the case now….. Set back from The Sankey Valley Canal, in amongst woodlands, this pub is a little cracker! It is renowned for being a ‘Dog friendly pub’…. They have outside and inside seating where dogs are not restricted in either. The pub looks spotlessly clean and with plenty of customers and some furry friends…… they even have a dog menu!…. Brilliant! We even learned that The Maltings and one of our favourite eateries ‘The White Hart’ are Sister pubs, so this will explain why the food was absolutely delicious, each dish was beautifully presented….. We went for starters today: Neil had Italian meatballs in Napoli sauce, sprinkled with Parmesan cheese and served with garlic bread. I had: deep fried crispy battered squid, with zesty lemon mayo, served on a bed of baby gem lettuce and pea shoot garnish. For Entree’s Neil had Salt and pepper noodles, tossed in a Teriyaki sauce with peers and onions….. Topped with pan fried Salmon (or you can have the choice of chicken if you wish). I had the ‘Cluckin Hot’ which was two crispy buttermilk chicken fillets, paired with melted sliced cheese, drizzled with hot sauce mayo and garnished with spicy jalapeno’s…. I upgraded my fries to sweet potato fries tossed together with mixed peppers and onions, with a pot of coleslaw…… there was a lady and gentleman serving behind the bar as well as the food orders, very friendly, polite, attentive and courteous….. The food was amazing and we will 100% be going back…..I could kick myself for not trying this pub...
Read moreOther then the added bonus of being a dog friendly this pub its well below its rating I was actually very shocked to see it had over 4 stars. I really don't know where to start really the staff look miserable, moody and the managers apprance was to say the least scruffy, unshaven and sweaty unkempy is a good work now we booked a large party in for a 21st and it was a complete joke after all being stood there for over half an hour waiting for a pre booked table as they had let another party sit there and refused to move them the staff were also very rude pushing past and made the whole party feel unwelcome despite booking, visiting the pub and pre ordering all the food for each guest obviously the mother of the birthday boy was very upset as she had gone to so much effort and every care had been taken to make this a special event so she complained and despite a party of 21 people spending £100's the birthday boy was given a £30 voucher. I was livid by this point and being the partner of the birthday boy I wanted to speak to the manager but as I had nothing to do with the booking I left it to his mum. Now months later we decided to go and have a meal for our 5 year anniversary wanting to use the voucher so this time there was only 2 people to cater for should be easy right we walked into the pub and upto the bar to see the staff looking misrable again 3 bar staff who seemed more interested in there current conversations then actually serving any customers they didnt even acknowledge us for a few minutes despite trying to make eye contact on various occasions after finally being served we went for a simple order of 1 beef and 1 chicken burger and for £9 a pop £18 for the 2 ud think they must be pretty special burgers to warrent that price but no just a basic burger on a bun with cheese on top and basic fries very over priced i would highly reccomend looking elsewhere especially for...
