Let's start with a positive, the food was great, really well cooked, very tasty and enough of it. On the back of social distancing it was nice to have separate private booths, but this was at the expense of having to dodge other customers and staff in the narrow walkways. One of our party is classed as disabled and sometimes requires a scooter, luckily enough she did not bring it, as I have my doubts whether it would fit in, it definitely would not have fitted at the table. The table was not flat, it was made of an old garden gate, with rounded slats. With food and drink at the table, space was limited and several drinks were toppled over, they were replaced but this didn't amuse the people who'd had drinks spilled on them. The atmosphere was indeed cosy, but it was verging on the side of too dark to see the food. Ordered more drinks halfway through our main meal, by the time they came we'd finished our meal and desserts. The bill was found to be incorrect, so had to wait for it to be rectified. The food was nice, but I don't think I'll be going again.

Thank you Rob for your feedback and generous offer. I am pleased to hear my constructive review was received as intended. I don't review for personal gain, so as much as your offer is tempting, I am going to decline . If we do return, I'd like it to be our choice, but your feedback would maybe make my return...

Went to dinner with my partner. Ordered 2 starters and 2 mains. The starters (Fish Pie and Pork Ribs £8 each) were decent enough but rather small and underwhelming for the money; only 3 small ribs and the pie needed a lot of salt, otherwise it would have been tasteless.

The mains (£15 for a burger, £24 for a steak) were likewise very underwhelming. There was maybe 8 other customers in the entire place, most of which just had drinks and still they managed to completely undercook the rather small cut of steak which as a result was stone cold by the time it got to me. The steak came with onions which I requested to be removed but this seemed to go ignored by the kitchen. The mushroom portion was very generous and looked delicious but were just completely tasteless. The entire meal was bland and again, underwhelming.

The two girls who served us however were both lovely and very courteous. I didn't have the heart to tell them the meal was poor so hopefully this review will get back to the kitchen somehow. 10/10 for service.

Atmosphere was also quite nice, the 2/5 stars just reflects the rather poor quality food. Otherwise a 3/5 if the steak wasn't...

How have I not eaten here sooner, what an absolute delight… Walked in without booking, the restaurant was busy but they found us a table quickly.

The evening menu was small but I like that, sometimes you can be given too much choice but adding to the main menu was a selection of specials which again, I do like to see…

Bread and water was brought to the table, a small touch but can’t think of another restaurant in Melksham offering this and it’s a nice touch.

Garlic Bread and the nicest Olives we’ve had in ages was our starter of choice, for main I had a chicken burger with potato wedges that came served with a pot of warm BBQ Sauce that was just amazing and my partner opted for the Chicken Caesar salad (we went for curry the night before).

I’m not normally a dessert person but spotted the tiramisu option and had to give it a try - again, outstanding and left me looking forward to our next visit before we finished this one…

I’d often walked passed here, remembering the place from it being a weekend drinking hole from years ago, kept saying to myself, must pop In and see what the food is like - well, let me tell you, it’s...

This is a multisensory delight of a place! We had the vegetarian option for Sunday lunch, which was a beautifully balanced beetroot and butternut squash Wellington with all the Sunday trimmings that the omnivores have - Yorkshire pudding, stuffing, gravy, roast parsnip, roast potato and a smidge of cauliflower cheese, plus a trio of separate vegetables as a side; in this case, calabrese, carrot and savoy cabbage. The complimentary slice of sourdough bread and jug of tap water were a thoughtful addition. The decor is full-blown beautiful eccentricity, with every surface covered by eclectic objects and images. The garden area at the rear has a water feature and cute booths too. If my American sibling were to visit the UK this is where I would bring her! I can't say what the desserts are like because we couldn't manage one, even split two ways. The coffee is good, the gin choices are high quality and according to several beer drinkers the beers are excellent. To finish a perfect Sunday lunchtime, a live performance from Nikki and Tommy Sutton was utterly delightful. We will be back!

What a beautiful pub, wonderful atmosphere, friendly staff vey happy to help, even the youngsters serving, happy and welcoming. I think the person who designed this pub deserves an award, we only had drinks, it was a family get together, and we had the best evening, the place is very clean, really good music playing, even in the toilets which were spotlessly clean, a very bohemian theme, we sat outside under the stars, yet warm and comfortable, clean throws readily available, and heaters, and little sectioned off areas which provided intimacy, or a chance to chat and have fun, curtains on each little sectioned off area, to keep the warmth in if needed, scatter cushions, I was very impressed by the whole experience, thanks to all for a great evening 🙏

Love popping into this pub, staff polite and nice atmosphere. So we have been back twice since this review and ventured inside! I cannot compliment this pub enough EVERY person who works there are so nice, engaging and again polite. The first/second visit we had the “High Tea” OMG this was absolutely amazing it really is a must. The third visit was a Friday lunch time and I had the Liver and Bacon, it was delicious (and yes, just like my mum used to make), himself had the Burger and Wedges and he said it too was delicious too. We love the little booths, lighting and all the small antiquities makes it a very interesting place. Thank you Market Tavern, we cannot wait for our next visit.
