I had come across this place on a couple of recommended lists. When looking at the menu online, it wasn’t particularly exciting, but decided to book it anyways as it was conveniently located for our visit to St Michael’s Mount. We were the first to arrive for lunch on a sunny Wednesday, and upon arrival again became a bit wary, due to the random location is what seemed to be an industrial area.
Our party of 8 sat on a large table indoors, but they do have several tables with bench seating outdoors as well - both covered and uncovered. What isn’t published on their website is the wood-fired seafood menu - on thae day this had just two options, and the monkfish was a tempting one which a couple of us tried and it was delicious. The wood fired pizzas too were excellent! We also tried the brisket burger, and we tried their desserts as well – the treacle tart, choc pot and crème brulee. The 4 kids in our party enjoyed some items from the kids menu. One thing I would point out is that some of the portion sizes were quite small – e.g. the monkfish. We ended up ordering a couple of extra items during the meal.
The bill for the 8 of us (primarily for the 4 adults) came to £145 excluding service, with £25 spent on drinks. A great lunch overall, the wood fired items were the highlight, but everything else we tried was pretty good as well. I didn’t expect much from this place, but it ended up being one of the favourite meals...
Read moreWhat a shame and disappointment- used to be one of my favourite places to visit when in Cornwall, but unfortunately it's changed; and is now just...very bland, feels like a local coffee shop, it's lost all its charm - and just feel so disappointed. Requested a table in the bar area on any given few days, depending on availibility, as we were totally flexible, upon arrival given a table in the little annex ( which is not nice at all, noise reflects off every bland empty surface - which was why I requested the bar area in the first place when booking!! When we booked we were asked if we had any dietary requirements- we eat a plant based diet, and one of the reasons I used to like the Mexico Inn so much - as they always catered for this with the most delicious meal options. The Starter was delicious - cauliflower fritters ( although I think it had yogurt on) - no fuss, I don't have any allergies) . Main meal - so disappointing unfortunately. The veg burger which states "100%plant based burger" comes with "swiss cheese" ???? The Aubergine Tagine with flatbread etc - that was absolutely not a flatbread but a shop bought naan bread - eerily similar to a Tesco version I recently tasted - it was dry and simply awful, could not even have one bite. Tagine bland unfortunately. Wine was lovely. Service so-so. Just so...
Read moreThis is by far one of the best places I've stayed. We were a party of 6 people and all of us left very satisfied with the stay. The place looks nice, very comfortable and has all the things you will need for a long weekend. It's near the bus stop (1 min walk) which can take you to either St. Ives or main Penzance towards Land's End. There's a post office/small shop downstairs that you can visit to buy some stocks. The pub downstairs offers great food in case you need something to eat and is open until late. The beach is around 5 mins walk and if you really need to do some groceries, a superstore is available, maybe for a 10-minute walk. It offers a great view of St. Michael's mount, the sea and also if you're lucky the nice, dark and clear sky. My only gripe would've been the internet speed (but I guess that's the same all throughout the whole region)!I highly recommend this place for a medium-sized party, that's looking to chill and just relax, and just listen to the waves crashing. Thank you to the host, they were very easy to contact and responded to...
