Arriving tired and hungry one evening, the Nog Inn looked unprepossessing from downhill; a concrete wall. But the front was characterful and well kept, and the inside was full of cheer. Comfy chairs and sturdy tables, walls lined with books (and cut firewood), it was cosy without being cramped.
The toilets were clean, the specials well advertised, and the rest of the clientele cheerfully nattering without being loud or raucous. Even Badger the dog (a regular, apparently), was well behaved. A cool, quiet and pretty beer garden tucked out the back allowed for a breath of fresh air (and a view into the kitchen) on demand.
The staff were very busy, dashing about trying to look after everyone, but never invasive, fretting, or too rushed to chat for a few moments.
The menu was not particularly special or surprising, but it was very tasty, and reasonable, with good portions served up speedily, well-presented, and consumed with gusto!
Heartily reccomend, would visit...
Read moreNot great! Service wasn’t good as had to ask to be served. Ordered loaded chips with Pulled Pork which was £7 which I think is a lot of money for some chips and a bit of pork. Also, ordered Chicken Stack sandwich was £7.50 - was served on white bread by Warburtons ( saw this as the chef was wandering around with Warburtons bread ) and was defrosted in the microwave by the chef. For this money, I would expect Bakery bread and for it to be Fresh - not defrosted. Also ordered, Coroque Monsuir which was £7 / 7.50 also served on white defrosted bread - said it was cooked in oven but griddle marks could be seen underneath plus it was hard and tasteless. Furthermore, it had no French essence. Seems pretentious but doesn’t live up to expectations. Wouldn’t recommend eating...
Read moreHad a lovely stay at the Nogg in. Having spent the week travelling the south west we stayed at 6 different hotels/B&B. The Nogg in was by far the most comfortable with a fantastic size shower & equipped with plenty of fresh towels & bathrobes.
We stayed in room 2 which had a huge bed (not sure on size but bigger than king size). A big bonus was waking up to a coffee machine & pods in the room.
The room looked freshly decorated and no sign of mould anywhere in the bathroom. Larger TV than usual in hotels too.
I would definitely recommend and will be staying there again when visiting family local to Wincanton.
A real credit...
