Me and my husband and my five year old stopped here for brunch on the way home from a rather soggy few days in the West Country at the end of the Easter holidays.
To cut a long story short we don’t have takeaways or eat out - ever. I have hygiene anxiety, all three of us have intolerances and I have bad stomach issues and it’s just easier to not eat out. We’ve eaten out maybe four times in five years and half of those have been disasters. It means my little boy misses out and gets incredibly excited about eating out because it’s a total novelty. Having read the amazing reviews for River Cale I decided to be brave.
We ordered food and with it gave specifics of various dishes with gluten free/ dairy free …no sauce/ onions even, it was not an issue at all and they were SO accommodating. I was so embarrassed but they did it all with a massive smile. They didn’t mind in the slightest when my husband rechecked about the gluten free bread because it was so delicious. The two ladies serving and the chef seemed a slight victim of their own success and were incredibly busy on a sunny Friday but despite this they worked SO hard making sure they were on top of things and clearing and cleaning tables more thoroughly than I’ve ever seen anyone do.
The food itself was so delicious and high quality produce and not at all fatty or greasy. I’ve never seen my little boy lean back and lick his lips and go ‘mummy this is SOO yummy, this is the besT lunch EVER’. Everybody else in the packed out cafe seemed to be very content with their food too and it made for a wonderfully happy atmosphere. It felt luxury/exclusive and casual and like home all at the same time.
Please keep up the amazing work, people notice the details and the extra mile you go to and not to sound dramatic but you all created a family memory for me and particularly my son that will last a lifetime. He still talks about ‘that lovely cafe’ and can we go back. I hope we will if we pass again!
Thank you. A...
Read moreThe coffee here is lovely, however the staff create a very awkward and strange atmosphere. I am perfectly normal looking woman, yet every time I go in there I get looked at like I’m some sort of an alien.. The staff are to you point of order and not at all friendly or social… So, the only reason I would recommend this place is out of convenience, however be prepared for awkward encounter and looks of either disinterest or disgust… Btw, I am not the first to experience this, many family member and friends have had the same experience. EDIT: I went back again they got my drink wrong. I ordered an oat milk latte but received cows milk. The girl behind the counter told me I was lying before snatching the drink to remake it. She then turned to the other girls working there and loudly said "This girl". Will never be stepping foot in this place again. I wanted to add this my review to warn people with intolerance's or allergies. Luckily my drink choice was preference for flavour, but someone could become very ill if served something they're...
Read moreVisited here on a Thursday early morning, was recommended to me by the Nissan garage over the road as I was having a service done on the car. The cafe is set in a park, quite large inside with several tables and outdoors seeting. A good range of tea and coffee plus oat and soya milk. The food menu is perfect for gluten and dairy free people like myself. Plenty of options including a delicious gluten free bacon sandwich which came with an unexpected but very tasty rocket and tomato side salad with dressing. Almost too much bacon but I'm not complaining about that . Children have their own menu, cake is plentiful, breakfast and lunch offerings are well made and thought out. Overall it is very good value and has a warm and cosy feel inside the cafe whilst being independent it is obviously well managed with high standards.. Staff who served me were knowledgeable and polite which is reassuring when ordering gluten free....
