I don’t know where to start with this review, easily the worst cafe experience I’ve had for a very long time. Had 5 young and hungry children to feed at lunchtime today so popped in for what I thought would be a quick takeaway to eat on the beach: 3 sausage rolls, a soup, some crisps and two ham sandwiches. I was kept there waiting for 45 mins! The sandwiches arrived in 5 mins. After another 20mins and realising that my hot food hadn’t arrived yet other customers who came after me were leaving with theirs, I decided to say something… turns out the sausage rolls were not even put in the warming oven so then were put in for 10 mins…. but then the soup hadn’t emerged despite my complaints about the time it was all taking… waited another 10 mins for the soup which had been seemingly abandoned to serve other customers…. no apology given just very flustered and dismissive staff. I don’t normally complain but I found this whole experience completely bonkers …. I’d really like to say it was good value, worth the long wait and delicious … it cost me £27 and the soup was so salty you could have walked on it!!! Sandwich’s two slices of cheap bread and thin ham, sausage rolls were ok but not worth £3.50 each. What can I say? I’ve worked in hospitality, I know it’s stressful but this was beyond acceptable. Not blaming the young lad out front, appalled by the poor management . Wont be...
Read moreHave been here twice and both times have been disappointed with something. The first time was a few years ago, we went shortly after Christmas and all their savoury products had a sage flavour. Even though I like sage, I don’t want it in EVERYTHING. Maybe they ordered too much for the festive period and were trying to use it up. The second visit was more recent and whilst the pies and sausage rolls were nice, the bacon and cheese pastry wrap was quite salty. I understand bacon (am guessing smoked for more flavour) and cheese both contain salt but it was a bit much. Also at £2 each, rather expensive. The most abysmal thing we tried though was their version of Tiffin. Sorry but NO. It was stale, tasteless and bland. Considering I’ve been making it for years and it consists of (in my version) five ingredients, I didn’t think it was possible to mess it up! The biscuit base had large chunks which made it taste stale, cake-like and in my opinion lazy, not to make it into a fine cheesecake base texture, which is how I make it. The chocolate topping was again bland. I don’t add dried fruit to mine but I know that some people add it to theirs. But that didn’t add anything to the flavour either. In fact my eldest son and I both ended up throwing it...
Read moreWe visited Arnside today and saw what looked like delicious pies in the window so, with it being a sunny day thought rather than sit in a pub, a sandwich, pie, bottle of water on a bench will do! Well, what an absolute rip off! £19.40 for a ham salad sandwich, tuna and onion sandwich, 1 meat and potato pie and 2 bottles of water! The sandwiches were nearly £6 each and nothing special, quite tasteless in fact, the pastry on the pie was nice, but the filling was EXTREMELY salty and just luke warm. If I visit again the sandwiches in Londis look tastier with more filling. £19.40! Rip off merchants! The young man in the shop also has the personality of a brick wall, didn't have a clue what he was doing, didn't know if they had forks, which they did and it general just couldn't be bothered. This place could be a little goldmine with good staff and reasonable prices. Such a shame. Go to Londis for better value and...
