I have been to the Parkstone and Heatherlands on numerous occasions with my mum and my two boys and have always had a pleasing experience. Yesterday the 4th November we arrived quite late. Whilst ordering our desserts the gentleman serving us questioned my sons age and advised us that we need to leave at 9pm. I asked if we would have time to order our desserts as it was quarter to and he said of course as long as you leave by 9.15 as it may start to become unsuitable for children after that time , which, of course was perfectly acceptable. When the desserts arrived there was one short so I went back to the bar to pay for the other dessert. The young lady that served me was apologetic and said I will try and get some money off for you due to the inconvenience caused , which I hassen to add , was a nusience as it was now after 9 pm and I was conscience that I need to leave shortly. The manager ( I presume) that she referred it to just said no, and the young lady , quite embarrassed, just took my money , the full amount. By the time I received my dessert I had to rush it down and I even had to get my son to eat a portion of it as it was by now 9. 15. Lastly I had to eat on my own as everyone else had finished by the time I had received my dessert. After this episode I am reluctant to return to the heatherlands as I feel a simple gesture would have been all that was necessary and I would have gone away a happy customer instead of a...
Read moreWhat a refreshing experience! Yesterday we called into the The Parkstone and Heatherlands for a breakfast then beer prior to a day of visiting craft beer places in Winton, Boscombe & Southbourne with 4 mates. Kev in Wetherspoons in Winton is a magnificent ambassador for your company, he is very passionate about beer & approached us initially to provide us with leaflets on your 3 month ale list as well as a viewing of a brewers booklet/guide as he had seen we were using Untapped to rate one of the many quality Ales he had available. He was very attentive to manning the bar but in the quiet periods he would return & discuss not only Ales but also how good the company is that he works for. He mentioned the way that customers & staffs ideas are not only encouraged they are acted upon, he also talked about the apprenticeship schemes and how the staff feel really valued and part of the team. Personally I have never witnessed a Barman/Landlord being so friendly, knowledgeable, welcoming & passionate. I asked if he has any aspirations to go it alone one day and he stated he hasn't because he loves what he does and the company that he works for, it was very refreshing to hear, I wish him and your Company every success. I feel it's common for people to complain and write negative reviews on their experiences however I thought in this instance I must highlight just how well Kev had across. We will...
Read moreVery tired local Spoons situated in the middle of Winton, two miles north of Bournemouth town centre; popular with locals & students, hence pretty quiet during holiday times but can be busy during uni/college term times. Fairly clean & tidy though on occasions dirty tables not cleaned or cleared promptly (typical of a 'Spoons pub); friendly staff; okay for a drink and a bite to eat if desperately hungry. Regrettably no beer garden. Desperately requires a refurb inside.
However, the 'Spoons app is brilliant and the service via the ordering app is very quick. Draught Guinness is excellent, especially at the price of £3.21/pt. Recently tried the Katsu chicken and rice on a "curry Thursday" (with an alcoholic drink £9.09) - its OK, but had much better at other (non-Wethespoons) foodie pubs.
Eaters be advised:- this is a NO FRY Spoons pub (and always has been, due to no installation of required fryer/griddle fumes extractor fans). This means that there are NO grill items such as steak or gammon on the menu; also, NO fried fish items either. Here, (almost) everything's microwaved, including the "fried" eggs and chips!!! If you visit with this in mind, then this pub's okay. But if you're expecting what most other Spoons offer on their menus (including Steak & Fish Club days), you may be...
