Cafe Tamago is a delightful find for anyone craving authentic Japanese-Western comfort food. Their omelette rice is hands down the best in the UK – perfectly fluffy eggs over savoury fried rice, rich yet delicate. The katsu (crispy pork cutlet) nestled over warm rice and soft-cooked egg – exactly how it should be.

The Japanese Western-style carbonara was a pleasant surprise – creamy and umami-rich, with a hint of soy that gave it a unique depth. We finished off with the croffle dessert topped with matcha cream, which was the perfect balance of crisp, chewy, and creamy – a must-try.

My partner and I visited Cafe Tamago today and were VERY impressed! It has a lovely relaxed atmosphere with some nice Japanese music playing. The lady who served us was wonderful, I asked about peanuts as I am severely allergic, and she quickly put my mind at rest. I had the prawn curry, which was rich and full of flavour, it was cooked perfectly! (Compliments to the chef) My partner had the garlic butter prawns, he really enjoyed it. We both had a side of miso soup, which was warm and comforting. The portion sizes were very generous, their prices are really reasonable. It was my first time here this afternoon, I came alone for some late lunch/early dinner as I've been wanting to check it out for ages. The atmosphere is so lovely, they were placing some really nice Japanese music and there are a lot of cute decorations! The staff are friendly and welcoming, they have a toilet for customers in the back and plenty of tables with boxes you can use to put your things in! A wide selection of different food and drink, I ordered the pork belly curry which was delicious. I also had some oolong tea.
