The Place in the Park — Restaurant in England

I held my mum's wake in the function room at this lovely establishment and it was fantastic. Thank you to all the staff for making this important occasion so special. The way they'd set the room out was lovely and there were doors that opened out onto an exclusive grass area which was great as we were lucky enough to get a warm day.

The food was divine. I went for the Saffron menu and the quality was excellent (particularly the corned beef pie) as it was all home made. They didn't scrimp on quantity either. There was way more than we could eat.

They could have charged a lot more for what they provided so don't be put off by the low price tag.

Just to keep this review balanced I'll nit pick and give you the negatives. Only 5 parking bays outside and these are disabled only. However plenty of free street parking a short 3 minute walk away. The soap dispenser in the function room toilet was empty so we had to ask for it to be filled (which they did immediately).

Would have given 6 stars but only 5 available. Look no further if you are considering this place for a wake.

I paid 9 pound for 2 pieces of cake. One was a cherry Bakewell and the other a cornflake cake. The cherry Bakewell was was awful. There was nothing cherry about it. It was extremely soggy, there was zero favour and it seemed that it had been sat in the dish for 2 days. I had a tiny bite and we both felt sickly after it. I wanted to return it but my wife is too polite. I can't comment on the cornflake cake as my son ate that and he will eat anything. His reply on how it tastes was "it's ok". I'm not sure where they get the cake from but maybe it's time to find a new supplier. I never go in there and I noticed it was so expensive I couldn't believe it. How they turn a profit is beyond me. The place is dreary and depressing, a minimum 5 pound spend if you want a drink. You can't even use the facilities unless you buy something as the door is coded. I've noticed other reviews that the food is dreadful but I can only comment on the cake. Anyway, don't buy the tiny slice of cherry Bakewell for £3.90, save your money go somewhere that's lovely cakes and have it with a lovely cuppa at home where you won't feel like you've...

I’m absolutely disgusted in the way this unprofessional and embarrassment of a cafe treats there staff and customer service, the prices are absolutely sickening I would never ever return here in my life the way the food tastes and drinks are absolutely vile how they are still in business I will never ever know!
